Ⓐ - Ⓩ ~ Ingrid

This is a series of studies for my long-time-in-the-writings book about the magic in the Nordic countries.
We are in the 70es on Unicorn Island, an island off the coast of southern Zealand. A handful of teachers have gathered the broken threads of magic once again, trying to revive the magic in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Faroes and partially Greenland.
Our main protagonist is Susan (me) from Elsinore and her three co-apprentices and friends Heidi, Tage and Lis living at Unicorn Island.
I grasped the chance to write a little bit about some of the lesser known apprentices in this A-Z challenge.

I for Ingrid Karlsson from Northern Sweden, or maybe better Saami.

Ingrid tells everybody who's asking her, that she comes from Karesuando, which is as far north as you can get. But the truth is that her mother, Helga belongs to the Saami people, and seh grew up among the Saami people.
Her father, Anders Karlsoon called Antta, comes from southern Sweden, but decided to get as far from there as possible, as he was always in trouble due to his magic propensities leading him in trouble ever so often. He met Helga at the traditional Saami market in Jokkmokk, where she visited the educational centre and he was selling reindeer fell. They travelled with Helga's tribe for many years, and Ingrid and her siblings are all born somewhere in Saami.

Ingrid has inherited her father's wild magic and was happy when Jon found her, told her she was a witch and promised her schooling n how to tame that magic. She is very good at transforming, Lis and Heidi feared only her competition for the transformation test.

Ingrid has very dark brown hair, hazel eyes and is short  and strong. In the first days on Unicorn farm she keeps very much to herself, but when she finds out that she actually can control her magic, and that she is good at it, she thaws to the other apprentices, and in the broom race she joins the opposition as an able flyer.

Her wand is made from Juniper, it emits bright blue and yellow sparks.

We first meet Ingrid at the first flying lesson, where she takes to flying like a duck to water.

  1. I like Ingrid. She sounds like she would be a good future witch who excels at whatever she wants to do.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. She would have been all this. But the disappearing of magic kills off many of the apprentices. Ingrid is unfortunately among those.

    1. Indeed yes. The loss of lives in conjunction with the loss of magic is staggering and saddening. It made me cry to write about it.

  3. I'm sure she did well once she came into her own and am also sorry she was not one of the survivors.
