Poetry Monday :: Station

Every Monday is Poetry Monday.

Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is taking a break for health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.

We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

I have something to ask of you: If you read this and the poetry of others via the links, would you please leave a comment.
Half - if not more - the fun of these challenges is receiving the responses of others
.

This Monday we've been given Station.  It is one of my favourite places in town. This Elfje will explain why:

Station!
Wonderful place
Hopes and dreams
The place it begins.
Vacation!

Not that I am going on any vacation right now, but the possibility exists, and I think about every time I am at - or even near - the station.

My first ever Elfje touches on this, and as I suspect not many follow the links back, I repeat it here for all to see:

  • Danger - road ahead - The first step - Wants more to follow - Pilgrimage
  •
    Tak til J.R.R.Tolkien for inspiration.

Poetry Monday Catchup

Every Monday is Poetry Monday. Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is taking a break for health reasons.

I have something more to ask of you: If you read this and the poetry of others, would you please leave a comment. Half - if not more - the fun of these challenges is receiving the responses of others.

I have been slacking, with blogging as with almost everything else (all due to good reasons) but now I'm trying to catch up. These last two days has been better, busy and still cloudy and windy, but NO RAIN!
Only due to no church and yet a birthday celebration, I suffered from the delusion that yesterday was Sunday! Of course it was not, and I am a day late with Poetry Monday. To make up for this, I also add a small haiku for the topic of last Monday, Conclusion.
As I normally resort writing one of the short, very regulated verse forms when I'm busy -- either a Haiku or an Elfje -- this is what I have done these last Mondays.

Monday July 22nd: Conclusion
A wise man told me
That a conclusion simply
Is a posh ending.

Monday, July 29th: Holiday
Holiday
A time
With fun relaxation.
We are longing for
Sunshine.

And for the coming Mondays we have these topics:
Aug. 5 Honey
Aug. 12 Cabinet
Aug. 19 Market
Aug. 26 Instrument

Poetry Monday :: The Future

Today's theme for Poetry Monday is The Future. Poetry Monday is a challenge, hosted by Diane at On the Border. But today, January 1, 2024 is Diane's last time hosting Poetry Monday, for the time being, as she's taking a break due to health issues. Messymimi and I have conspired to keep the chair warm for her. We will each set the topics for one month, I begin with January, Mimi is gong to tackle February, and so on until Diane returns.

I wrote two short poems for today. One Elfje and one Haiku. Both touching the uncertainty of the future.

Future?
Tomorrow and
The next day
A long, long row.
Uncertain!

The future is filled
With hope and anxiety.
Let us live today!

For January the topics are as follows:

January 8: Winner
January 15: Requirement
January 22: Teacher
January 29: Flight

Poetry Monday :: Time ~~ Tid

-- 🕗 -- 🕙 --

Time - time is a strange thing. And I find it hard to write poetry of Time without getting either morbid or corny. For this reason I wrote two Elfje. If you do not know what that is, go here for an explanation.

Poetry Monday is a challenge, hosted by Diane at On the Border.

-- 🕗 -- 🕙 --

Endless                                                              Endeløs
The hours                                                     ligger tiden
stretch before me.                                     her foran mig.
I'm waiting for you                              Jeg venter på dig.
Crawling!                                                       Sneglefart!

Oops!                                                                        Ups!
Two hours!                                                          To timer
I just wanted                                                 løb deres vej
to read my mail.                                 Jeg skulle bare lige.
Flying!                                                              Lyntempo!

Poetry Monday :: Breakfast or FrenchToast

The grumpy, depressed owl has still not flown away. While fighting the Ookie-Pookies (thanks to Messymimi for the wonderful name) I wrote an Elfje, not really in keeping within the rules, so maybe a Not-Elfje?
For more on Poetry Monday go Here.

Breakfast
Every day
For all of us
Means tea and toast
Not French!

Next Mondays topic: Mittens.

Poetry Monday :: Valentine - Elfje

If you want to read some better  poetry,  Diane - who has taken over the hosting of  this challenge - and Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings - who also supplies us with topics - are writing wonderful, funny, thought-provoking, ingenious and honestly well written verse. Go and read.

Karen of Baking in a Tornado has joined us in this crazy pursuit, and promises us at least a poem a month - may  we hope for more!

SpikesBestMate often publishes a nice verse in the comments.

Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey who has been a faithful participant, is slowly returning to blogging after her husband's passing from this world. Let's continue to send warm thoughts, good energy, and lots of prayers her way. And dare we hope that she will join Poetry Monday again.

Today my brains felt empty - of poetry at least. So I sat myself down and made an Elfje once again.

Valentine.
A priest
An extraordinary man
Always ferociously fighting for
LOVE!

Words for Wednesday -- 26 January -- Elfjes

The prompts for this Wednesday are, as all January, given to us by Hilary Melton-Butcher. The prompts and a lot of other information about this challenge can be read over at Elephant's Child's blog.

The general idea is to make us write and read what others wrote, and cheer along the other participants.

This is also a challenge, where the old saying "The more the merrier" holds true, therefore: Please, remember to follow their links, go back and read other peoples' stories. And please leave a comment after reading. Challenges like this one thrives on interaction, feedback and encouragement. And we ALL need encouragement.

The prompts for Wednesday 25th of January:

Wellington Boot
Art
Murmuration
Sedge
Thresh
Fissure

     And/or
Heath
Race
Cottage
Mosses
Windbreak
Ajax

It seems like I did not get enough poetry with my "wannabe Haiku" this Monday. But today I stay with elfjes, as they are fun, easy, and not as serious or "grown uppish" as the haiku- Yet still requiring some work to fit within the rules and give an adequate expression to your thoughts.

I did not use all the words. Race and Fissure are being left out.

I have copy-pasted  Elizabeth Leaper's explanation in a blog post here: Elfjes  as unfortunately I have seen so many blogs suddenly disappear, and her blog has not been updated for 7 years now.

Writing.
The illumination.
And the threshing
of words form chaff.
Art!

Cottage.
Wellington boots
Mosses and sedge
The well-known smell of
Ajax

Gentle
winds blowing.
They are trying
to pass the windbreak.
Murmuration.

Poetry Monday :: A Domestic Incident

Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and Diane of On the Border are taking turns supplying us with a topic for this weekly endeavour. They also both write wonderful, funny, thought-provoking, ingenious or simply honestly well written verse. Go and read.
Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey is taking a break due to her husband's health issue. Let's continue to send warm thoughts, good energy, and lots of prayers their way.

I have something to ask of you: If you read this and the poetry of others, would you please leave a comment. Half - if not more - the fun of these challenges is receiveng the responses of others.

An elfje is all I have to offer for todays Poetry.

Baking.
It happens
We like it
There's never too many
Cakes.

The topic  for next Monday: (Memories of) Newspapers. Thank you, Diane.

Poetry Monday :: Sports

Diane of On the Border and Jenny of Procrastinating Donkey are taking turns hosting Poetry Monday.
This week Diane is once again teasing our brains with Sports!

  Normally Mimi is also participating.
I am really not the sporty type. I like biking through my peaceful forest, but not in a race, balls make me want to hide, and running, well ... to catch a bus is all.
An elfje was what I could manage.

Sports,
Strange things
Leave me flushed
and out of breath.
Watching

Next Monday we have to rhyme with: Money.

Poetry Monday :: Humming

Today is Monday, and Monday means Poetry.
Today's theme is Humming from Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey.
 Also participating are:
Diane, Mimi, and Merry Mae.

The short form and strict rules of haiku speaks to me. But sometimes a haiku seems to serious, too big a form for my petty thoughts. Long ago I was taught that haiku is serious, a polished bauble, a small piece of frozen eternity - like a gem stone.
I needed a more flighty kind of short poem with simple rules too. The Elfje is the perfect counterpart.

Humming!
Gentle sound
Busy bees flying
Pollinating flowers and trees.
Gratitude.

Next Monday's theme from Diane At the Border is Phones.

Poetry Monday :: Music

Delores of Mumblings and Jenny of Procrastinating Donkey is taking turns hosting Poetry Monday.
Today's theme is Music. This time as well I have a drawing (yes, I posted it before, but it fits today) and an ELFJE:

-- 🎶 --

-- 🎶 --

Music.                                                                                                                                             Musik.
Just notes,                                                                                                                              Bare noder -
Eight little notes.                                                                                                             Otte små noder -
But when they combine:                                                                                      Men sammen skaber de
Magic!                                                                                                                                             Magi!

Poetry Monday - Mandagsdigte :: Updated

Delores of Mumblings and Jenny of Procrastinating Donkey are taking turns hosting Poetry Monday.
I am unable to participate - writing poems in a foreign language is far harder than prose. But I have put up a photo of my winter window to support your cause.

-- ❅ --

February 4.

Oh well, if I can't rhyme or make the syllables fit, I can always write an ELFJE:

White!
Winter's window
Water no more.
Window with white hoarfrost.
Wonder!

          -- ❅ --

Genialt koncept.
 - o 0 o -
Today MotherOwl took the bus from further away from home, almost one kilometre distant. On her way MotherOwl picked up the trash in the ditches, as much as she could carry in her two hands. By the bud stop there's a rubbish bin. But some angry person had ruined the bin. MotherOwl studied her catch. Lots of cans, most with deposit. MotherOwl had an idea, she pulled out her shopping bag, and put all the cans in it. Then she handed in the cans while shopping, and received the deposit for the good ones. That's pure win. Money for MotherOwl and a cleaner ditch.
Later today MotherOwl leafed through her facebook posts. One was on how long trash stays in nature, shared by a group called TrailSkrald (TrailTrash) advocating the very same idea! Only the name ... Ugliest Danglish! MotherOwl invented a new all-Danish one, and an all-English one now we're at it.

Then MotherOwl played with a pencil. An elfje and a sketch of a trash-elf was the result. Not excellent any of it, but I'd like to share anyway.

- o 0 o -
In the future MotherOwl will bring along some trash bags, one for the TrailTrash and  one for the DitchDeposit.

Korte digte -- Short Poems

MotherOwl likes poetry. Reading, writing, or translating poetry is one of the regularly upcoming tings in MotherOwl's life. For long haiku has been a part of this. Now a new form, the elfje has joined the fun. It's easy, but still with rules, not as serious or "grown up-pish" as the haiku, but still requiring some work to fit within the rules and still give an adequate expression to your thoughts.

I have copy-pasted  Elizabeth Leaper's explanation here, as unfortunately I have seen so many blogs disappear recently:

How to Write Elfje:

An ‘Elfje’ counts as five sentences.
Line 1. One word. This word symbolizes a colour or feature. The word symbolizes the atmosphere.

Line 2. Two words. These are something or someone with this colour or feature.

Line 3. Three words. Giving more information about the person or the object. You describe where the person or the object is, who the person or what the object is, or what the person or object is doing. This sentence usually starts with the word ‘he’, ‘she’ or ‘it.’

Line 4. Four words. Here you are writing something about yourself in relation to the person or the object. This sentence is your conclusion.

Line 5. One word. This word is called the ‘Bomb.’ It is the essence of the poem.
