Words for Wednesday & A Mystery

Monday, while waiting for our birthday lady to arrive, I visited a second hand shop just across the street from where we were celebrating. I saw many interesting things there. A few of those I bought, most not.
I found - and bought - a tin of
I saw - and did not buy - bookends shaped like comic figures, a carefully wrapped CD with the soundtrack from Grease featuring Hopelessly Devoted to You, a book on gland diseases in bovine for veterinary students, and another on Greek elegies. It was a very good second hand shop, and I hope to go there again.

I found - and bought - an owl shaped lunch box (not featured)  and these funny birds
If anybody has an inkling - or certain knowledge - of the use of these wooden creatures, I'd be happy to hear.

And with this I used the first batch of words from Words for Wednesday. Found here, and supplied by yours truly.

Here are all the words once again - I do not yet know if and for what I am going to use the second batch.

Careful

We have a Kangaroo (No-Poetry Monday)

I just had to share the news. A kangaroo has been seen in the southern part of Denmark!
LINK
The owner has not been found, a local zoo has been asked,
but says that they count their kangaroos every morning, and are not missing any.
I wonder what this forebodes as the theme for today's Poetry Monday is
Predictions.
Just now I am too involved in Susan's story to rhyme.

Trist slutning -- Sad Ending

As I complained in my blogoversary post, far too many blogs just end. I found this blogroll at Home Sweet Home and it totally proves my point.
One of the entries is rather scary, and a bit comical. The one in the red box says: WOOZ.DK - Hunting for Mushrooms - 4 years ago.

Today it was once again too wet for soap selling at the market. We went to an indoor flea market to find a ned lock for our door. The old one suddenly broke yesterday, and we had to break into our own kitchen. We found a new one, and now we can open and close the door once again. But I also found some strange finds - of course. I found 2 sets of chopsticks, and then this:

Det er ikke slik. Mere forklaring følger i morgen.

No it is not candy. More to follow tomorrow.

Strandfund -- Found at the Beach

Bemærk det lille stykke kvarts lige over D'et. I Danmark findes kvarts kun på Bornholm.

D. Ch. F. is the cryptic inscription on this stone. The Pirate found it last Thursday at the beach. (Yes, it was cold and windy. Yes the Sun shone. Yes it was wonderful. No, we did not swim. It's only 4 to 5 degrees above zero.)
A longish search led me to a Russian homepage, quite funny as MotherOwl and BigSister both mistook the Danish Ch for the Russian ϹЬ. And, yes Danish, because the stone, an  insulating brick (refractory),  was made on Bornholm. The letters is an acronym for Dansk Chamottestens Fabrik (it still exists now named Hasle Refractory). Notice the big lump of Quartz directly above the letter D. In Denmark quartz is only found on Bornholm. The Pirate says we can use this brick as a trivet.

I dag -- Today

 - - - - -
Today MotherOwl weeded the asparagus beet (there's a grand total of five plants) and enjoyed the sigth of this owl. It was MotherOwl's birthday gift nine years ago, but it was placed in the garden olny in the past week.

 - - - - -
Today was a very hot day. All the inhabitants of the Owlery climbed hot and grumpy into the Zeppelin, and 15 minutes later they were swimming in the sea.

 - - - - -
Today we found a funny thing in the garden - what it is? Guess. The solution is at the bottom of this post.

 - - - - -
Today MotherOwl found the first ripe tomato. It is an early tomato, normally the first is ripe at July 4th, but this year we had a long, cold spring.

 - - - - -
Today MotherOwl went in the meadow and collected reed blossoms for 100 g. alpacca, hoping against all odds it would turn the same luminant green as the wool -and it did! The first plant dye ever to dye alpacca just as well as sheep's wool. The yarn is still cooling in the wonderful pot.

Byghøsten er gået i gang. Vi hørte mejetærskeren i nat
 - - - - -
Today we saw the first golden bales of straw. The harvest has begun and barley is as always is the first to ripen. We heard the combine in the night.

 - - - - -
Today MotherOwl and the Owlets checked on the new bees. We found a beautiful queen bee, eggs and brood in both hives. So nice.

 - - - - -
Today MotherOwl smelled the newly cut lavender soaps. We can actually smell the lavender.

* * * * *

The strange thing from the garden is a moss gall, home of  larvae of a rose gall wasp.
