Last week MotherOwl celebrated her birthday. This is on of the gifts. She also had a new rake, as the old was worn out. Do you wonder why MotherOwl was happy to have a small stack of lumber ...
MotherOwl and the Writer worked with a screwdriver and other tools. This was the end product. The old one was worn out after 19 years of hard use. We ate cakes and drank coffee and hot chocolate at this table for the celebration.
And then we celebrated Midsummer. The bonfire this year was not too wet to burn (as has happened) the ground was not turned into a swamp from excessive rain - (this has happened too - we once had trouble eating the BBQ, as the chairs sank into the ground, making us all midgets compared to the normal size tables). The wind abated as the time came to light the bonfire, and the Sun set in glory behind the trees. We could not have wished for better weather, the cold is a part of the joys of the bonfire.

Mere om honning -- More on Honey
- - - - -
Honey straight from the bees is transparent and liquid, wonderful for pancakes and strawberries, but it does not stay like this. Left alone it will crystallize, eventually turning into one big sugar crystal.
- - - - -
When some time has elapsed - for canola honey round a fortnight - the honey becomes semi-transparent and thicker. It's time for some stirring. This makes the honey change colour and taste as well, turning it into normal Danish honey, white and hard, ideal for toast.
All Danish honey eventually turn hard. It's a question of sugar types. Fruit sugar (as in acacias) stay liquid, and dextrose (as from canola and dandelions) crystallize. And as you cannot avoid these two flowers in Denmark, al honey here is hard and more or less white.

Lækkert! -- Delicious!
Minimax og jeg forberedte os ...
Minimax and I prepared ...
We also needed clean buckets and a sieve ... and we had to dress for the occasion.
We found our old trusty extractor and gave it a thorough cleaning.
Here we are visiting the bees and looking at the frames we want to take home.
Only one bee was still inside, as we arrived. It was put outside and was able to fly home on its own.
We then uncapped the cells and extracted the honey. All senses are satisfied in the process. The sticky honey clings to our fingers, and requires licking and drying off at frequent intervals. The extractor sounds like rain in spring and it smells so delicious.
We had pancakes with fresh honey ans strawberries after dinner.

Sommerhus 2014 Summerhouse
- - - - -
For the last week MotherOwl has not been at home. That's why she has not commented on any blogs, not updated facebook with the least little chirp, and only posted pre-made picture filled blogposts.
Instead MotherOwl, the Writer and the Owlets have been busy doing many other things.
