Mamelukker og strik -- Bloomers and Knitting

Det her syntes at virke.

MotherOwl is known as the Soap Lady as well. On markets and elsewhere she sells soap in Summer. This year MotherOwl has decided to be a bit crazy. Let's try: Imagine Madam Mim - fine - now make her clothes blue. That's how MotherOwl; or rather the Soap Lady is going to look come summer.
But to dress like Madam Mim you need bloomers, blue bloomers. And I just can't find my way to Diagon Alley any longer. Ergo I have to sew my own. First, a pattern This seems to work.

1. prøve.  - Trying on for the first time.

Næste trin. Blondekanter.
Next step. Frills.

Frills are to be sewn on by hand. This disagrees with weeding that leaves MotherOwl's hands dry and chapped.
Right now she's attacking the skirt. This blue wool has to be fulled. The process shrinks it around 10 %, leaving it soft and supple.

As a test, I hand washed and fulled the little patch. You can see that it has shrunk, but not how soft it became.

Også her.

Buttons in this blue colour were hard to find. Luckily MotherOwl is a member of a weavers' guild - we do more than weaving. And the ladies and gentlemen there are always ready to help in any textile or wooden endeavours. Of course one lady knew of a homepage with a video showing how to sew your own buttons. MotherOwl found out how to, as she's a newbie it was not that easy, but they turned out just fine.

Den lille vaskede prøvelap og to håndsyede knapper.
The small patch I washed first, and two hand-sewn buttons.

To be made yet is a petticoat with frills, a bodice and shirt, an apron, and maybe a hood for rainy days.

MotherOwl has been knitting as well. First I knit the socks for Marsupilami. Those socks that ended up as mine, and they're good.
Then I knit a pair for the Pirate. A quick knit on fairly thick needles.

Piratsokker.
Socks for The Pirate.

Saturday BigSis, boyfriend and LittleLion were here to celebrate the Writer's birthday. We had one more reason to celebrate. Little Lion now is a big brother. BigSis gave birth to a precious Gem. She is jus so cute and sweet.
It was cold outside, and when they dressed to go, her hat fell into her eyes and was in one word irritating. MotherOwl used her Granny-prerogative of knitting things and offered to knit a soft, warm hat. This happened quickly, and just as quickly it was sent and miraculously received after only two days.
Danish mail is truly snail mail. Post boxes are emptied twice a week only, and letters can be delivered up to 5 working days - Monday through Friday - after this emptying. So two days from my posting it until The Gem had it on her head is truly miraculous.

Hat for Little Gem being knit. This pattern was used for knitting for her mother (Big Sis) as well. I found my old stitch markings in the margins.
