Poetry Monday :: Bamboo

Well it was to easy a solution, just repeating an old poem. I had to write about bamboo. Not much, not very intelligent, but here it is.

And while I was at it I wrote about our unusual weather. We're treated to a spell of cold, clear days very windy, but very beautiful. It snowed some days ago, it's almost gone now, but the prognosis for more snow is good. I hold my thumbs!

Bamboo
For sure bamboo is not for me,
I am no panda as you see
I am an owl, so feed me mice,
but made of sugar - that's my vice.

Winter cold
All the snowing that snows
and the cold winds that blows
make us shiver and freeze,
make us huddle and sneeze.

But it's bright and it's gay,
sunlight just like in May.

We go sliding along
- it is fun, can't be wrong -
frozen laundry we fly
stiff against pale blue sky.

Yes its bright and it's fun
snow reflecting the sun.

I hope winter will bring
even more snowy thing,
cause the snow doesn't grow
when the coldest winds blow.

When it's cold I have heard
sublimate is the word.

So I look at the skies
brigth and clear to my eyes
and enjoy what I see,
even more snow for me.

Cause it's bright an it's fun
when we have snow AND sun.

  1. Good poem. Bamboo is not for me either.

    1. I like looking at it, actually. But I do not want it in my garden, and I do not like the texture of bamboo shots. I even had (have?) some mugs made of a single piece of bamboo with the membrane in the nodes serving as a bottom.

  2. I enjoy the cadence of your poetry. The rhyme scheme. The way it moves through the lines. Oh, and by the way, sugar is my downfall, too. Bamboo is pretty, but it grows like wildfire. I shouldn't have it in my garden.

    1. Thank you, I value your opinion. And yes bamboo is wild! My neighbour once grew some, and she had a hard time getting rid of it.

  3. Love your poems. They are very visual, inspire pictures in my head.

    1. Thank you so much. That's what I try to do - describe the pictures in my head - and I'm happy someone else sees "my" pictures.

  4. I enjoyed both of your poems and I'm sorry I'm so late reading, it's been a week (as always). Bamboo is not for me, either, unless it's one of the species that doesn't grow over its boundaries (there are some).

    1. Also, you usually post the upcoming topics and that's how I get them. Maybe you could do as last year and email the whole year's worth?

    2. I always enjoy your poems so much. No need to excuse for reading late, what with the time difference and mu missing flair for numbers and conversions you have to be really late for me to even notice :)

And didn't I send you the topics already? At least for the first half year. I thought so and will (re)send immediately.
Secret tip. The topics for at least a month ahead is below my text - only written in same colour as my background. You can see them by marking as a block ;)
