Strikkeballe -- Knittingbowl

For anden gang i dag. Link til Strikkeonsdag hos Small Things.

Linking once again with Small Things' Yarn Along.

In Danish the word "knittingbowl" is mostly used as a synonym for knitting basket. That's a pity, because a knittingbowl is a practical thing. It is a small bowl  with or without a hole or slit for the yarn(s). I just use a regular, and very ugly old bowl on a foot. It is from the 70ties, where everything was either orange or brown, but it works, and keeps my yarn from rolling all over the floor and getting tangled if I have more than one ball of yarn.

  • Min strikkeballe.
  • My knitting bowl. The colour of the bowl clashes with the multicoloured yarn, but it's not the looks that counts here.

  1. I have a knitting bowl my daughter bought for me. It was made by the daughter of the owner of my favorite yarn shop. Yours is pretty.

  2. Uglemor,

This is the first time I've heard of knitting bowls. What a great idea! My yarn just rolls around the floor in a most disorganised manner. I do have a basket for storing my knitting in.

Is that a sock you're knitting? The colours are beautiful!

  3. I've been using a small fabric basket that was designed as a thread catcher, but it keeps my yarn in place nicely. Oh, the seventies, no other decade has had such a focused colourway.
    Pretty yarn, lovely start.

  4. I think I would enjoy a knitting bowl -- one of these days I will have to try one.

  5. I like the idea of the bowl, Uglemor. I keep my yarn in the basket as I knit. I used to have a knitting bag but the basket works so much better at keeping the ball from rolling.

I'm wondering - do you use several bowls for different colours? My different colours sometimes get tangled. Perhaps, bowls are the answer.

    God bless:-)

    1. Yes when knitting stranded knitting, I use 3 bowls; one for the passive yarns, and one for each of the two active colours. I have only knitted with four colours, when I made Fair Isle mittens.
