Gul uld, første forsøg -- Yellow wool, first round

Now my delicious white wool has been rinsed, scoured, washed, rinsed again, dryed, carded and finally dyed with Saint John's wort from my stock of herbs. I dyed 3 small batts 3 different yellow hues. Now I just have to card, spin and knit the wool. I'm hoping for a variegated yarn, and I'm looking forward to it.

Here is the first batt drying on my giant laundry bag, which I made from an old curtain for the spinning of wool in a washing mashine.

  1. Did you use whole plants or flowers only?

  2. I used the whole plant before flower, and supplemented with dry whole herbs. It was an experiment. Normally I use whole dryed herbs and get green, yellow-golden and brown-golden from the same dyebath. My only try to get red, as I have seen you do, resulted in the most khaki-grey-ugly colour I ever saw ;)
