Yesterday evening MotherOwl studied the Weather prognosis. No frost was in sight. Then Marsupilami returned home with frost on his helmet. MotherOwl grasped an old sheet and her bike lamp. The light beam ricochetted form innumerable small crystals. Beautiful, but lethal to her plants. Anyway she placed the sheet over the Zucchini plants hoping against hope ...

This morning GardenOwl looked out over his frozen empire.

Og squashene? De var døde.

And the zucchini? They were dead.
Som det kan ses i headeren, dansede isfeerne på engen

Terrible beauty is the perfect description and title.
SvarSletEchoing Elephant's Child - perfect. I know that first hard frost well. Even if I am expecting it, I grieve a little over the dead flowers (I have no vegetables) and I know the long winter is irrefutably here. I'm sorry you could not save your zucchini. Frost on a helmet - wow! I hope there was a hat or ear warmer under that helmet :)
SvarSletThat was me, jenny_o!
SletI changed NOTHING for the second comment but somehow it "knew" me - ????? Blogger, grrr
SletThe weather guessers are only guessing anyway. I'm sorry you lost your garden this early.
SvarSletYes some kind of computer-aided guesstimates. But they are normally quite good here, if anything a bit to the pewssimistic side. So this frost was a surprise.
SletWhere I live I haven't seen frost in many years. Maybe there is a little before I get up in winter mornings, but I don't think so.
SvarSletI feel sad for you. No frost means no snow and no ice and no winter fun. I love snow and frost - only not during autumn holidays - in winter please!
