Poetry Monday :: Relief

Every Monday is Poetry Monday.

Poetry Monday is a blogging challenge started by Diane @ On the Border in February 2017, and later it was picked up by Delores @ Mumblings and Jenny @ Procrastinating Donkey.
Then Dolores took over the hosting duties; but when Dolores left the internet, Diane returned and took over hosting duty again with her and Jenny taking turns suggesting a topic.

    Now Mimi @
Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over, as Diane has returned home from her travels some time ago, but seems disinclined to take up Poetry Monday again.

I find this sad, because she reached many more poetry-writing bloggers than Mimi and I do.

The prompts are now taken from 365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts group. This is a Facebook group with a (drawing) prompt for each day of the year, but no worries, the prompts will still be here and at Mimi's blog. And they mostly lend themselves perfectly for poeming as well.

I have something to ask of you: If you read this and the poetry of others via the links, would you please leave a comment.
Half - if not more - the fun of these challenges is receiving the responses of others
.

  -- 🍳 -- 🥩 -- 🥕 -- 🐟 -- 🍥 -- 🌿 -- 🍚 --

Today's prompt is
Relief

Sometimes, when I have no idea what to do with the words, I simply find all words that rhyme with it, and mostly a nonsense verse takes form. This happened today as well.
    I asked for rhymes on
Relief - which I suspect can be pronounced in two different ways with different meanings. And I was given: Belief  - Broadleaf  - Debrief  - Flyleaf  - Khalif  - Longleaf  - Massif  - Motif - Serif -  and  Beef!
Longleaf and Broadleaf sounds like pipeweeds  from the Hobbit, I looked them up, and the truth is more plain.

It turned into this:

Last week we had beef
now it's a relief
to write of a leaf

Although my belief
is that the Khalif
would rather have beef
than slender longleaf.

I see a motif
in every broadleaf
oh, what a relief!

Today's prompt is
Beef

By now I think that you all know that I love limited poems, like Haiku, and Elfje. During the 2025 A-Z Challenge, I found the Epulaeryu at ladyleemanila's blog.
As always when pressed for time and energy, I recourse to these short forms. I still need some practise in Epulaeryu - strange name with a strange explanation:

The Epulaeryu poem is about delicious food (The name is, I think, a mixture of Greek and Japanese).
It consists of seven lines and thirty-three syllables.

The form is 7/5/7/5/5/3/1 syllables, an
d the seventh line ends with an exclamation mark
.

A tempting smell is wafting
to us from the pan.
We sprinkle salt and pepper
we turn it as we can.
Serve it with taters
and veggies.
Beef!

Poetry Monday :: Moody ~ ~ CORRECTION!

Error message:
Dear all. I see now that I have given the prompts for the wrong dates - Sundays, not Mondays - for the rest of 2026. Blame it on my new PC, that does not show Sunday as the first day of the week.
I have now corrected them all.

Today's prompt is
Moody. Together with past Friday's WfW - Right Now - it made me think of a poem Pia @ ColorCottage posted ... it's almost 13 years ago! By Golly, time flies!

It is NOT my poem!

Dust If You Must
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed,
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb,
Music to hear, and books to read,
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go - and go you must -
You, yourself, will make more dust.

Not mine, published by Pia @ Colour Cottage September 26, 2013.

Poetry Monday :: Northern Lights
~ I suppose Southern Lights would be OK as well.

Poetry Monday is a blogging game invented long ago.
Mimi of
Messymimi's Meanderings and I are keeping it alive until Diane @ On the Border returns home from her break of healing and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.

We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

The prompts now come from 365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts group. This is a Facebook group with a prompt for each day of the year, but no worries, the prompts will still be here and at Mimi's blog.

Today's prompt is
Northern Lights. It's also called Aurora borealis or australis, or simply Aurora. As normally when my brains are mushy, I go with a shortie. We live far enough North for Northern Lights to be sometimes visible here, but I have never seen it, when there's a warning I do often not see the warning, and when I do, it's cloudy or even rainy. An Elfje will have to tell the tale.

Aurora
I try
to catch it
They are always elusive
Lights!

Poetry Monday :: Cobweb with Dewdrops
Updated with Photo

Poetry Monday is a blogging game invented long ago.
Mimi of
Messymimi's Meanderings and I are keeping it alive until Diane @ On the Border returns home from her break of healing and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.

We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

The prompts now come from 365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts group. This is a Facebook group with a prompt for each day of the year, but no worries, the prompts will still be here and at Mimi's blog.

Today's prompt is
Cobweb with dewdrops, which sounds funny, almost like a kind of tongue-twister -- I could not resist the temptation to put these sounds in a rhyme. Can you guess the tune?

Dewdrops in cobweb
or dewcobs in dropweb?
Webdrops on cobdew,
or cobs wet with dropdew?
Spiders that spin with the thread from above
spinning their net in a labour of love.

Cobdew in dropweb,
or dropcobs with dewweb?
Webdew or cobdrops?
It's cobweb with dewdrops!
Spiders that spin with the thread from above
spinning their net in a labour of love.

Somewhere in my folders I have a photo of a Cobweb with dewdrops. I'll add it when I find it.
It was one of my headers. Here it is.

Poetry Monday :: No Poetry Edition ~
Colour26 & Wordle - Solution!

Today it's Poetry Monday, and the prompt is Blue.

Today I've been away plant dyeing all day. And no, we did not dye Blue, butt a pretty reddish brown.

Today I solved the Wordle with only Greens again. The answer was not Blue either. Chili is Red.

Because of the solution, my post won't go live until midnight.

.
Today it's the first of June. The colour of the month is Razzmatazz, which most of us, including  Mimi's Little Annie and River's twins would simply call Pink. Even if the colour of Our Lady normally is Blue, this was the colour of the flowers I picked for her today.

A whole post with neither Blue nor any Poetry. I hope you'll forgive me.

My comments are still mostly not posting - even here. And if they do post, half of them dissapear without trace.

Dear Mimi. Stupid, stubborn Blogger simply refuses to let me leave any comments on your blog. I wrote:
Great poems on a balcony, the first was the best! I love that Little Annie is always wearing them blue boots ;)
- not big stuff, but I like to be able to comment now and then.

Today's prompt is
: Scooter

First I had to look up scooter - it was a surprice for me to learn what this meant. I only knew the - for me Italian - motorized version of this vehicle, not the kid's version, which I lioved as a kid.
Then I tried finding rhymes whit scooter: Shooter, looter, router, suitor ... not very inspiring.
The sun is still shining, and I'm busy in the garden and elsewhere ...

Elfje to the rescue

Going
very fast
Just two wheels
and my two feet
Scooter!

: Futuristic Landscape.

Walking in a futuristic landscape
The brook colours my feet yellow,
And from a tree I pick some grapes,
I find them sweet and mellow.

The rocks look molten, running, soft
Their shadows nice and furry
The bats fly from the pigeon's loft
In droves of velvet flurry.

At sunset, when the moon arises
and all the clouds go home
I see the birds in many sizes
Each carrying a tiny gnome.

The earth has holes beneath my feet
as good old Schweitzer cheese
The downs and feathers fall like sleet
And make me itch and sneeze.

The sneezing has made up my mind,
I'll leave this awful place
And for a land with sun and wind
I'll leave without a trace.

Today's prompt is: Back pack.

An ode to my old friend it is then.

We've travelled the world, me and my back pack
We walked down roads and off beaten track.
I carried you, you carried my stuff - and a snack
A bottle of water and my sleeping bag.

You met with an accident bitter and black
The bus with us in it was hit with a smack
You bore the brunt of it and now you're a wrack
I have to find a new one that has my back.

Another true story form one of my many travels. The bus we sat in - and where the luggage was stored in compartments under us - ran into a wall or another solid object at a very low speed. Most important nobody was hurt, and almost nothing was broken apart from my poor backpack, the frame of which was twisted and bent beyond repair. It made it home with me, but not without chafing and trouble for me.

Today's prompt is: Plaid.

As so often when my brain feels empty, I take my refugee to short form pems, Haiku or Elfje - which seems to have a rennaissance under its German name Elfchen. I even found its name in English to be Elevenie. It is a small, but fun thing to write. Read more here.

Plaid,
Woollen, cozy,
Keeping me warm.
Alas, why is it
Itchy!

And as has happened for me more times recently I forgot to hit Publish, I blame busy, sunny spring days and the A-Z Challenge.

Poetry Monday :: Superheroes

Hello! If you're here for my A-Z post for Q, please go back one post.

Poetry Monday is a blogging game invented long ago. Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I are keeping it alive until Diane @ On the Border returns home from her break of health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.

Today's prompt is: Superheroes

I have written before of my dreamt-up negative Superheroes. Here, here, here, and here.

It is not that they themselves are negative, far from, they're really good superheroes. But their superpower is that everything not belonging toi the place it is in now, lights up in negative colours. This is quite a superpower if you think of it.

But they are a sad bunch in these modern times. I give you

The Superheroes' Lament:
We are the Superheroes, we
We see much more than you do see
And everything that should not be
Light up in colours gaudily

A beer can glows in neon pink
A lost receipt in magic ink
A waste of powers you'll agree
Now think of all that cannot be:

We'd find the keys you lost today
We'd find the kittens gone astray.
But our powers locked stay
on all the crap you throw away.

Poetry Monday :: Passover

Poetry Monday is a blogging game invented long ago. Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I are keeping it alive until Diane @ On the Border returns home from her break of health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.

We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

The prompts now come from 365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts group. This is a Facebook group with a prompt for each day of the year, but no worries, the prompts will still be here and at Mimi's blog.

Today's prompt is: Passover

Woe is me. I read River's Mimi's blog and poem before writing one myself.

Add to this that I found Passover a hard theme for a poem, and that I - as every Easter Monday - forget that it IS Monday because it's a holiday ... lots of excuses, I never got to write anything, but in the "rules" for Poetry Monday it said somewhere that You're allowed to copy somebody else's poetry. That's what I'm going to do.

This spiritual actually tells the story of Passover, Easter, and salvation.

When Israel was in Egypt’s land,
Let My people go!
Oppressed so hard they could not stand,
Let My people go!

Refrain:
Go down, Moses,
Way down in Egypt’s land;
Tell old Pharaoh
To let My people go!

'Thus spoke the Lord,' bold Moses said
Let my people go!
'If not I'll smite your first born dead.'
Let my people go!

No more shall they in bondage toil,
Let My people go!
Let them come out with Egypt’s spoil,
Let My people go!

Oh, let us all from bondage flee,
Let My people go!
And let us all in Christ be free,
Let My people go!

The Moon Tonight

The Moon at 7 pm.

The moon tonight
looks clear and bright -
at least I hope it will

It'll rise and shine
for me and mine
and sit upon the mill.

Then later on,
when night is gone
It settles on the hill

A little while
then dip and smile.
Give way for morning chill.

Poetry Monday :: Croissant

Poetry Monday - what's that? It is a blogging game, that Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is taking a break for health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.  We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

The prompts now come from 365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts group. This is a Facebook group with a prompt for each day of the year, but no worries, the prompts will still be here and at Mimi's blog.

Today's prompt is:
Croissant

You know it's true
- find it, I do
It's a mommy power!
And when I do
I follow through,
do as to pick a flower
and say "Croissant"
in mock up French!

But why?
Because some time ago the Owlets showed me a crazy video that's basically about a man snatching croissants from thin air, every time saying 'Croasson' in terrible French.
It stuck ...  of course I can't find the video. If I do, I promise to  post it.

Poetry Monday :: Obsidian

It's two weeks and a bit since I last gave Service notification for Bloggers! When blogging an important thing to learn, is to press PUBLISH once you're done!

I need to take my own medicine.

Also this poem is sorely lacking. After several times where I was convinced that I would retain the poem I created in the wee hours of Monday morning, I now wisely keep pen and paper by my bed.
Note to self: Remember to check that the pen actually have enough ink.

This one ran dry after the first two lines. Yes I was writing in the dark so as not to wake up hubby - I've done this many times before. Normally I use a pencil, but it was broken.
Note to self: Sharpen your bedside pencil more often!

The poem was way better when I wrote it. I've tried to collect the strands, but alas ...

Obsidian

Riddle-solving time. Obsidian is watching the only exit from the Arena.

Obsidian sits on his guard,
its eyes so black, like stone its heart.

Now Amber comes and speak its words:
"Like lightening I've often heard
me called, it is my due.
Now stand and let me through!"

Then Opal, Jade and Pearl they try,
they plead, they threaten and they vie.
Our Pearl it even sheds a tear
to no avail. Obsidian just sit and stare.

They try by day, they try by night
in sunshine golden, starry light

Ruby, Beryl, and Peridot
go on about it. On the spot
Obsidian is sitting.
They almost feel like quitting

Then suddenly the humble one
rise up, decides to join the fun.
Agate whispers in its ear
it then stands up, the way is clear.

Asked how the riddle met its end
Agate thinks a bit again:
"It is not time nor season,
It only stands to reason."

If you think you know this ending from somewhere, you've probably enjoyed Spider Robinson's tales from
Callahan's Cross-time Saloon where a similar joke plays a small part of the short story A Voice is Heard in Ramah ...

Poetry Monday :: Meeting a Friend

Meeting a Friend

Sorry, I met several friends, and I could not decied which ones to leave out.

Today I walked my garden and met with some old friends:
I meet them every springtime, I'm vary at their ends!

Some other frieds are woolly, but do know how to fly
I am lucky to have snapped her, she can be kind of shy

Though it is barely springtime - for sure I cannot lie
it took me by surprise that I met some butterflies!

Poetry Monday :: Breakfast in Bed

Poetry Monday - what's that? It is a blogging game, that Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is taking a break for health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.  We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

Today's prompt is:
Breakfast in Bed.

Breakfast in bed leaves lots of crumbs
Thats why I alway give a 'Thumbs
Down' for breakfast in bed.

Too short, maybe, but my head is empty when it comes to creativity, and filled up with worries for the future. Elections are upcoming, this time for the parliament, not the local councils, but I can repeat what I posted last time around (October 2022): Only elections are not tomorrow. They are in three weeks, March 25th. Always on a Wednesday.

Scarier

and probably the worst poem, I ever wrote. Please, bear with me.

Now Halloween is scary
But Hallows eve has nary
A vampire's chance in hell
To scare me as tomorrow will ..
It is election day!

Tomorrow will be dreary
and leave me sad and weary
When all is said and done
and day has had its run
It is election day!

Tomorrow they'll be merry
The jesters. Hot and airy
is every word they say
like animals they bray.
It is election day!

Poetry Monday :: Plants with berries

Poetry Monday - what's that? It is a blogging game, that Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is taking a break for health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.  We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

Today's prompt is:
Plants with Berries

In my garden I grow plants with berries
but say, who eats the many berries?
I try to find them, maybe fairies?
I look in all the syllabaries
I search for them, but traces varies
In my garden I grow plants with berries
of many sorts, red, blue and cherries
But someone's eating all my berries.

I think of all my adversaries,
of anyone who ever tarries
in my garden - caterpillaries
hens and bugs and the primaries
in terms of suspects, Jack and Mary's
kids next door, the emissaries
of hordes of kids, contemporaries
who love to eat my many berries.

In my garden I grow plants with berries
and hidden now my vision tarries
on ribis, black-, blue-, and cranberries.
And I see sights, more necessaries
are not to find the adversaries.
The bugs and hens and Jack and Mary's
children too are munching berries.

In my garden I grew plants with berries
alas to thwart my adversaries
thistles and thorns my lot now carries.
But oh I long for my sweet cherries
I go and search all town's libraries.
and brew a potion: Unseen berries
From now on grace my old granaries.

What a whole lot of limping nonsense. I hope you enjoyed reading it just half as much as I did writing it.
