Thursday 21st - Wordle and Lost comments

Once again I solved the Wordle in two tries, and with only green letters, but I think Wordle has learned that I do not want to sign up, as there was no Ta-daa and no pop up to register to save the badges.

Lost comments in the latest 24 hours:

Messymimi on "And I Thought I Had a Lot of Keys (Wordless Wednesday) and Words for Wednesday"
- Thank you for the story of "Bits and bobs from daily life with little Annie". I enjoyed it very much and hope for a nice rest for you.

And one comment on my own blog, which I have since re-written and posted successfully.
I'll have to learn to copy ALL comments, not only on others' blogs.

Words for Wednesday :: An Unforgettable Meeting.

The original Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and eventually taken over as a moveable feast with many participants supplying the Words.
When Delores closed her blog forever due to other problems, Elephant's Child (Sue) took over the role of coordinator.
Now, after Sue's demise, River has taken the mantle of c
oordinator upon her shoulders.

No matter what, how, where or who the aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to our mind.

This month the words are to be found at
Mimi's blog: Messymimi's Meanderings.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please leave a comment on River's blog, then we can come along and read it and add a few encouraging words.

It is also a challenge, where the old saying "The more the merrier" holds true.

So Please, remember to follow the links, go back and read other peoples' stories. And please leave a comment after reading. Challenges like this one thrives on interaction, feedback and encouragement. And we ALL need encouragement.

And for today we were given:
1.prefer  2.myth  3.common  4.category  5.store  6.image
    and/or:
1.flower  2.saintly  3.stormy  4.sheep  5.bank  6.face

Today I'll prefer a real experience to the myth I normally spin.

Today I was at a meeting in the room above the church, where we drink coffee after mass some Sunday. This is a common enough occurrence, but something happened to place this meeting in the "unforgettable" category.  I hope to store this image in my mind for a long time. We sat talking, almost done with the agenda, as the building suddenly shook. Not much, but enough to upset us. It was a strange feeling. We discussed what it could be, had the house been rammed by a car, or had something blown up? We went to the windows and looked out. I saw a car reversing out of the parking lot - totally unharmed. Nowhere was there any smoke or any signs of anything untoward happening. No ambulance or police sirens were heard. We joked with it being an earthquake, but then again earthquakes does not happen in Denmark.

We finished our meeting. Did the dishes, watered the flowers and lit a candle in front of the saintly looking picture of Our Lady in the church downstairs before parting ways.

It was rainy and somewhat stormy, not enjoyable, so I hurried to the train station, only just noticing some fun, knitted sheep in a shop window, but as there was no branch of my bank in this town, I just caught the next train home. In the train I saw a familiar face. My son was in the same train. I asked him if he had noticed any shaking or something. He had not.

Back home I sat down and read the news. An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 actually hit Denmark today at 4.15 pm.

PS: I'm still haunted by "Bloogers" and still cannot always comment. I suspect many of you can't either, as there's even less than the usual number of comments on any post here.

Know that I read and enjoy still, and hope that you do the same.

Service Announcement Updated ~ Blogger! ~ Servicemeddelelse opdateret

Dear readers and co-bloggers, my blogrolls are not updating, and I am only sporadically allowed to post comments on Blogger-blogs. Strangely there's no problems commenting on WP or self-hosted blogs.

I'll try just visiting your blogs when I suspect something new has happened.

For instance: River has posted the prompts for Words for Wednesday, even if my blogroll still gives her former post.

--  @  --

The no comments allowed looks like this. This is a screenshot from Messymimi's Meanderings, but it also affects many more blogs, among those Christine's Blog, Drifting Through Life (River), Strikkoman, and The Other Side of 80. Sometimes if I close down everything and reboot, I can post one comment, but that's not exactly a good solution. I hope Blogger will fix this soon.

What's up, Blogger

For some time now I've noticed Blogger renaming my posts.

Sometimes when I have a post open, I close it, and open another one to edit that one. And then afterwards I re-open the first one to finish my editing job there.

If I do this, my first blog post sometimes get renamed to the name of that second one ... confused? I sure am, and maybe you were too today, when my Words for Wednesday post suddenly looked like this:

I don not know why, and I do not know how to avoid this either. .

Praise - and the opposite - for Blogger - Updated

  -- ✅     ➗     🆗  --

Lately, I've been struggling a lot with Blogger when editing images. The image editing tool doesn't always pop up when I click an image. It doesn't always work either
There are other quirks too, mostly in the HTML codes, but I won't bore you with those.

On the other hand, all spam is now filtered out and all normal comments go through. I have removed my Spam notification from my header.
I'm particularly happy about this on Elephant's Child's blog, where I apparently get a notification e-mail about all comments after ticking the "notify me" box. But all the spam posts are gone when I look. Well done, Blogger! Because there's nothing more depressing in Blogland than an abandoned blog where the comment fields are filled up with witch doctors, casinos, etc.

And there I jinxed it. The first spammer got through. Do they really think we go there when they're spamming a loved one's blog?

Nye skrifftyper? - Blogger - New Font? --UPDATED

Now the comments should be the same size as the blog text proper. I found help on the Blogger help site and tiserted this small piece of code in my blog's HTML at the end of the #comments-variables (for me its at line 462) ... And the percentage can of course be made larger for even bigger comment texts ;)

#comments {
 font-size: 110%;
}

I hope this helps.

River tells me: "I read your poem but had to use a magnifying glass, the letters here are so small now. Blogger has made changes and on my own blog I now have to increase the size too when I type anything."

I then suggest to use Ctrl and + to enlarge. This works, but also enlarges everything else. She says: "It works, but then it is so large I can't see the task bars. I wish Blogger would just leave things alone. When I type in your comment box, it is normal size but after it is published it is tiny."

Is this a River-specific problem, or is anybody else affected too?

I always enlarge blogs (and most anything) using Ctrl +, this enlarges everything, yes, but the text becomes of legible size before everything else disappears.

Please tell how it looks for you.

Fredagsfrustration: Blogger vs. WordPress

-- ✎📧 --

This is also an explanation why I don't comment much on WP-based blogs.
Every time I want to leave a comment on a WordPress blog, I have to enter email, name, and - optional - blog address. No matter how many times I move the slider to remember my data, it's gone the next time. Sometimes it auto fills in when I start typing, but mostly not. And I also have to be psychic:

 -- 📧 ✐ --

At the bottom of the white square - below my email address, which I've hidden - it says: Fortsæt læsning/Continue reading. You have to press this to publish your comment without subscribing to the blog. It is, as can be seen here, not always visible. Now I've learnt to just  click in the middle of nowhere, but the first few times I felt quite weird.

Google er blevet sær :: Google's new Antics

Sometimes complaining here just helps better than anything else I can do.

Now Google has found out a new way of  bothering me. It logs me out at irregular intervals, and then insists on showing me all notifications in Swedish.

This is the disclaimer, you get when reading a new blog - only I get it every time, I visit any blog - and as said in Swedish. I have of course logged in again, checked my language settings;  my preferred language is as always Danish (and English for those pages not yet in Danish), so of course I need all notifications and Blogger's start page to be in Swedish.

But why?

SPAM!

Today I once again wrote to Blogger via the in-game Help and Feedback system.

Here's what I wrote (slightly edited for typos and clarity):

Well, yesterday I had an actual spam-comment advertising online shopping and what not - what happened? It was just published, not put into spam prison.

Today River commented, as she has been doing for years - what happened? Her comment was once again put in spam prison.

"Dear" Blogger - you need to update your AI or better yet ditch it!
It's easier for me to delete the one real spam a month, than letting River, Mimi and all my other regular commenters out of spam jail several times a week!

This is not spam according to Blogger's AI:
NN 14. mar. 2024, kl. 12.23

USA xxx
online shopping in usa
USA xxx
Loans
degree
Donate
Mortgage
lawyer
online shopping

While this is:
River 15. marts 2024 kl. 06.45

The green logo looks better but nothing will make me join the A-Z challenge. There's too much thinking involved for my tired little brain.

And no, I won't stop telling Blogger off every time they make me free a comment of yours from spam prison. I hope - just like that biblical widow who keeps on knocking and asking for justice - to pester them long enough to get tired of me and do something about it.

Fredagsfrustration ~ Blogger!

 - - - - - ✅ - - - - -

Blogger is at it again. In the last 24 hours, I've freed five comments from spam jail - including one of my own and a couple from weeks ago.

Blogger? Do you really think I'm spamming my own blog? Or that people who have been commenting here for years are suddenly spammers? Or that I leave spam comments for weeks on end... no, really?

Of course I don't. So Blogger, just stop!

News, Thanks, and a small Bother

First of all a HUGE THANK YOU to everybody - regular readers and those just popping over - who wished me well, sent prayers and good vibes my way. Today I feel like I am going to survive being "perforated" (Keyhole surgery is the right term, thanks EC). I'm still  ... wobbly ... I think is the best word, but I can stand erect, walk around, even stretch with care, so mending is absolutely happening.

As a direct consequence of feeling better, I began cleaning my blog - easy, sedentary job - and noticed that the background was still Advent time's Jesse Tree. I put up a snowy landscape instead which is most fitting since the snow still lies here, and we're treated to something as extraordinary as clear, freezing and even sunny weather. This is my favourite winter weather.

But after having changed the background - and I touched no other settings! my date header did not have its usual transparent background. Thinking back, I remembered this happening every single time I have changed my blog background for a very long time.

Before I corrected it, I took a screenshot. It looked like this:

Does any of you know why this happens and maybe even how to prevent this from happening?

An Error! - Updated

This is happening a lot lately:

Elephant's Child's blog, but it happens everywhere. Sometimes I can solve it by copying my comment, refreshing the page (F5), pasting the comment and then publishing. But not always.

I have not disappeared, or turned away from commenting. Blogger simply won't let me!

Answering Jenny_o' and EC's comments with following words:
"You're right. Changing browsers sometimes help If only it was the same browser doing the trick, I could just use that one, but it seems like it's the changing doing it :)"
I tried following River's advice of just clicking until it published. Leading to a new error: You have reached the maximum number of comments allowed for one day - try again tomorrow.

Stupid, stupid Blogger!

And then, after editing this post, I tried again, and bam, it published! I'm now pushing my luck, tryng to reply to all comments - which I have found is the cure against them being marked as spam.

"Spam" der ikke kan befries! ~ Tirsdagstips

"Spam" I cannot set free!

Blogger has for a long time now randomly put comments -- my own as well -- into spam prison. Nothing new here. But Blogger would not be Blogger if it was not up to new tricks now and then.

Now suddenly when I click the ✔ meaning Not spam, please publish, nothing happens. The screen turns grey and freezes, and I have to reload the page to continue.

I found a workaround. It is as easy as 1 -2 - 3

-- 😠 -- ⛈ -- 🤯 --

Friday Frustration on a Sunday ~ SPAM!

I just wrote this to Blogger in the feedback place:

"Dear Blogger, please stop marking ANY of the comments on my blog as spam. It is easier for me to delete the occasional spammer, than to free ordinary commenters from spam prison several times a week!"

I feel rather irritated. Worst when they put old comments, I already read in spam prison ... can't they think? If I leave a comment on my blog for weeks, sometimes even months, how big is the chance of it being spam? Honestly, Blogger, there's huge room for improvement.

mandag den 1. maj 2023

Dumme Blogger - Stupid Blogger

-- 👎 --

Blogger has gone crazy. Every day I free between 2 and 10 comments from spam prison. Some of these hve been on my blog for years, Some of them are my own answers to your comments.

What are the chances that they're actually spam? I think the answer is the obvious 0%, but Blogger apparently disagrees.

I stubbornly continue to free them - and complain to Blogger.

Fredagsfrustration :: Bloggers nye meritter

Men hvorfor?

Dette indlæg set i HTML -- This post as shown in HTML

Et gammelt indlæg set i HTML -- An old post as seen in HTML

Friday Frustration :: Blogger's latest

If you think my posts have looked a bit more chaotic lately, with more errors and typos than is my wont, the explanation is that I have been mostly composing my posts in HTML mode instead of the normal Compose mode. The real toughie is that spell checker does not work in HTML, so be prepared for more typos and mistakes. It'll probably be some time until my blog posts once again looks how I want them to look.

And just why am I using HTML mode instead of Compose?

Because it is a solution, probably not the best, bit the one buggering me the least to Blogger's new antics.
For the last two months or so every single time I began composing a post, I began in HTML mode. I typed in a couple of letters - like the nnn above. Then I changed to Compose mode and I had to remember each and every @$#% time to hold down SHIFT while pressing ENTER so as not to activate my nemesis; Paragraph Formatting.

If I added a photo ... or changed between HTML and Compose modes, or if I right aligned or centered something or a lot of other things that are neither unusual not uncommon ... if I was not totally careful BAM! Paragraph formatting was back.

If I then marked all of my post and selected Normal, all the < p > changed into < /div>< div style="text-align: left;"> instead of the simple  < br /> = new line, single spacing, I had had so far.

And if I then selected HTML mode trying to clean up Blogger's mess, the post was one big unbroken wall of text interspersed with seemingly random pieces of code - as can be seen in the screenshot.
Earlier the HTML mode was not like this; the different elements were nicely sorted as can be seen from the  other screenshot - the old ones are still like this when opened.

And all this is why I now try editing my blog posts in HTML mode, painstakingly typing in the codes and inserting lines with Enter where I want them to be. It might be slow, but overall better for my temper and blood pressure.

Commenting ... maybe a solution

I complained in the Blogger community over the many changes to Blogger - and a helpful user answered me there. He furthermore told me that many of the commenting issues Elephant's Child and other are having could be due to the fact that modern browsers disable these two browser settings as default - and sometimes re-disable then when they update:
- Save Cookies
- Allow 3rd party website tracking
And as these settings are the two main reasons for issues with commenting, I recommend that you check them out - alternately have someone tech savvy to teach you how to do (it's not that difficult, but differnt from browser to browser) so you know where to look after an update to change them back.

New Blogger!

Today I deletes a bog post - It went into the trash-bin. Blogger has a trash-bin now, so accidentally deleted posts can be saved!

And I would have praised the spam filters for not catching any of you regular bloggers, but this morning, for the first time in over three weeks - I had to release Messymimi's comments from spam-limbo.

Also the feed-back gadget is renewed, but awry. I hope this is a work in progress.

-- -- -- --

Blogger!

Someone at the Blogger Help Community helped me getting my sidebars back.
Now EC is telling us she ccannot comment on blogs with embedded comments, and other commenting they can't either. I will change my comment form to the not-embedded one; even if I do not like pop-up commenting, I like no comments even less. Hope this helps.

Normal MotherOwl blogging soon to resume, just now feathers are ruffled and cleaning and putting away have to be done after the exhibition.

Sære ting på Bloggen :: Strange, New Blogger

Gad vide, hvad der lige sker her?

The contents of my side panels have gone missing, but only on the main page; selecting one of the sub pages brings it back nice and fine, so it is there somewhere. I wonder when and if this will be fixed.
