Colour26 ... Poetry and Words
Where Have I Been?

Words for Wednesday ~ August 12, Words supplied by Mimi @ Messymimi's Meanderings. The Words can be found there and at River's blog: Drifting through Life.

Plastic
Remain
Tooth
Wisecrack
Distant
Enjoy
    and/or the following phrases
Heads up (an advance warning)
Not all it's cracked up to be (failing to be as good as other people claim)
Playing possum (pretending to be dead, or being deceitful)

Using all words and expressions in the order they were given, dramatic and over the top, based in truth:

Plastic seems to be all that remain of my poor tooth. My dentist said the following wisecrack: Your teeth are all soon to be distant works of art, enjoy them while they're still there.

In other words, she gave me a heads-up to start saving for some major work. I do not think dentures are all they're cracked up to be, so I'll go on trying to retain my few remaining teeth and play possum when the subject arises, until it can no longer be dodged.

Poetry Monday ~ August 10, prompt: Bluebell
This prompt was given for Monday 10th, the birthday of one of my sons. And in my head rolls a tune, I always thought to be Bluebells of Scotland, but is not. One of my other sons participated in a theatre at school, where this tune; the 'not-Bluebells of Scotland' was used. It went on about sheep, about sheep-shearing, and of sheep-shearers up in the highlands. I think it was made for the occasion, as I cannot find it anywhere.
It wholly and totally prevents me thinking any sensible thought on Bluebells.

And the Colour of August:

One photo from last week
That's not Denmark 😉. We were away on a mini-holiday, visiting Ribe, Hamburg, and Lübeck. This is from Hamburg, a picture of what I called the "Terrible Tower" The church was bombed during WWII, the tower still stands, fortified, and a lift takes you to the top of the then tallest, now still fifth-tallest church tower in the world. During the trip up and down you can look directly down and out through all the holes and missing windows! Did I ever tell you that I'm not fond of heights?

Fredagsfrustration - eller snarere -undren
Friday Frustration -- or rather Astonishment

I går løste jeg Wordle med bare grønne bogstaver, og det gav mig et badge, "Sea of Green".
I dag løste jeg Wordle med bare gule bogstaver. Hvorfor er der ikke et "Sea of Yellow" for det?

-- 🟨   🟩 --

Yesterday I solved the Wordle with only green letters, and had the badge Sea of Green to show for it.
Today I solved the Wordle with only yellow letters. Why am I not given a Sea of Yellow badge for this?

Poetry Monday :: No Poetry Edition ~
Colour26 & Wordle - Solution!

Today it's Poetry Monday, and the prompt is Blue.

Today I've been away plant dyeing all day. And no, we did not dye Blue, butt a pretty reddish brown.

Today I solved the Wordle with only Greens again. The answer was not Blue either. Chili is Red.

Because of the solution, my post won't go live until midnight.

.
Today it's the first of June. The colour of the month is Razzmatazz, which most of us, including  Mimi's Little Annie and River's twins would simply call Pink. Even if the colour of Our Lady normally is Blue, this was the colour of the flowers I picked for her today.

A whole post with neither Blue nor any Poetry. I hope you'll forgive me.

My comments are still mostly not posting - even here. And if they do post, half of them dissapear without trace.

Thursday 21st - Wordle and Lost comments

Once again I solved the Wordle in two tries, and with only green letters, but I think Wordle has learned that I do not want to sign up, as there was no Ta-daa and no pop up to register to save the badges.

- Thank you for the story of "Bits and bobs from daily life with little Annie". I enjoyed it very much and hope for a nice rest for you.

And one comment on my own blog, which I have since re-written and posted successfully.
I'll have to learn to copy ALL comments, not only on others' blogs.

A-Z Challenge ~ Stats

I did it!

I posted an A-Z post every day of April except Sundays

This year again I choose an easy way out. Each day I solved the Wordle of the day, using as starter a word beginning with the letter of the day.

As the alternative badges, as supplied by Lissa suggest travel I chose travel-related words as starter words, and for most of the posts
I succeeded in adding a few words pertaining to my chosen starter word and telling a tale from my many travels.

O
ne of the funny things about Wordle is solving it - or not - and the number of guesses you use for this, it lend itself perfectly to statistics.

Stats ~ Wordling
Looking through my earlier Wordle stats tells me that out of  26 Wordles I typically solve it in:
4 guesses 9 times,
5 guesses 6 times,
6 guesses 5 times,
3 guesses 3 times,
and fail 3 times.
Or an average of 4.8 guesses. How was April 2026 compared to this?

I solved 25 of the 26 relevant Wordles at an average of 4,8 guesses. My distribution of guesses can be seen in this grid:
I had the same average number of guesses, but fewer fails and fours and more fives and sixes.
I do not know if this means anything other than starter words not belonging to my usual batch pushes the number of guesses upwards, and some luck led to fewer fails. Let's leave well alone.

Stats ~ Blogging and visiting
I know there'll be a dedicated reflections post for this later on, but I'll do a bit now, when my mind is still on the challenge.

Blogs visited:
I visited - or should I say tried to visit - all the 144 participating blogs on the master list. I did not comment on all of them. I repeat, again modified, from former years' Stats post:
In past year I spent far too much time trying to comment on blogs that required a log in, wading through posts not touching on the A-Z at all or where I had to "fight" to get to the posts ... to the detriment of my visiting blogs that were interesting or were following the guidelines. This year I was not going to revisit non-participants, those requiring a large amount of blogging gymnastics, or those where I did not like the graphics or contents.
Why did I then have such a tough time again this year?

Non-participants:
Again too many blogs were not participating. Of the 144 bloggers signed up 20 did either not exist, had supplied broken links, or did not participate. This is 13.8 % of the blog. Even worse than last year.

I do not know what, if anything, can be done about this. We sign a disclaimer where we agree to this:
Blog Link *
Please make sure the link works and leads to your blog, not a specific post or area where you create your posts. Thanks! It must go to a PUBLIC blog where anyone doing the challenge may COMMENT WITHOUT LOGGING IN, SIGNING UP, or SUBSCRIBING.
The team visits all blogs at least once I know. Could they maybe in some way mark those "defective" ones on the master list so as not to waste loads of time for all the rest of us?

Read and commented:
I expanded on the list I made after the theme-reveals. I visited all the blogs I had not yet visited during the theme reveal, and marked them using the same system either Green for interesting, Yellow for maybe interesting (or interesting with bad graphics), or Red for not interesting.
After a few days I had:
   7 in  Green
26 in  Yellow  only a few because of bad graphics
111 in  Red  of these also the 20 with no A-Z, double entries, or broken links.

Of the Green and Yellow ones and a few Red ones too, I have commented on 35 or maybe some more as my comment would sometimes just disappear. I had this happening mostly on blogs on Substacks, WordPress, and some in an unknown format. Some blogs where I have commented more than once still only count once in my stats.

As STATS is actually a five letter word, I tried to solve today's Wordle with STATS as a starter - same as last year.

A-Z Challenge ~ A for Abbey

This year again I choose an easy way out. Each day I'm going to solve the Wordle of the day, using as starter a word beginning with the letter of the day. I post every day at noon my time (GMT +2. Dang you DST!)

As the alternative badges, as supplied by Lissa suggest travel I'll prefer travel-related words as starter words, and if at all possible, I'll avoid words containing the same letter more than once
.

I'll maybe add a few words about my chosen starter word if fancy takes me and I have time and energy for it, else I'll just post the solution - or not in the case that I did not solve it.

And as always there's Easter with busy days and family things, so my posting schedule might look a bit erratic, more so in the beginning.

Today my starting word is Abbey. I succeeded in solving the Wordle with this starter word, but it was not a good one as can be seen here:

Wordle 1.747 6/6
⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩
⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜
⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩
⬜🟩⬜⬜🟩
🟩🟩⬜⬜🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Long ago, as I travelled in Africa we lodged in an abbey in a small town in Southern Sudan, It was home to a priest, Father Bill, and some sisters, I think belonging to the Sisters of the Precious Blood.

The days we stayed there, included the feast of Epiphany. On that day mass was celebrated in the big church.

It was as I said big, Gothic, white, but with no windows at all - it had doors.

A couple of new sisters had their wows that day, an there was a grand celebration afterwards - we were invited, and it was really a great day - fully worth the royal scolding this visit earned me afterwards.

It all seemed quite decrepit an worn to me back then. But I suspect it was only brand new, about to be built, because now the place is a bishop's seat and very nice indeed.

Yes, this was short, and filled with obscure hints and mysteries. Sorry. I hope to have time and energy for more in the coming days.

And now to the Wordle

ABBEY:
And again today, I solved with only green letters and got an invite to create a free account.
Thanks, but no thanks

Solving with only greens is totally fitting for today - the first day of April where The Colour of the Month is:

Friday Frustrations ~ Wordle Badges
Fredagsfrustration ~ Mærker i Wordle

Yes, I know, I said I'd never play again. Citing myself from December 30, 2025.
Wordle, Spelling Bee, Strands, Connections, and Tiles - I have enjoyed solving these four for the past three and a half years, I even based this year's A-Z Challenge on Wordle, but now it's over. Tiles, The Mini Crossword and Letter Boxed are only for subscribers as of September 1st. I know that Wordle, Strands and Connections are still free to play, but for how long? For me making Tiles pay to play was the last straw.

But I cannot keep away from Wordle. I made a promise never to log into my free account ever again (meaning I have no acces to my stats or the Wordle-bot, but also that NYT does not have the pleasure of seeing me log in).

Wednesday I felt sorely tempted, as this popped up.

 --  A  --  B  --  C  --

It seems they added badges to Wordle. I love achievements, ergo I checked it out.

Fortunately I soon realised that I would not break my promise to myself, even for this. Some of the badges were streak badges.

 --  A  --  B  --  C  --

They are even awarded retroactively, so no way I could avoid them. As I despise anything streaky, I had no problems closing the else very tempting log-in pop-up.

 --  A  --  B  --  C  --

De bliver også tildelt på bagskud, så de ville ikke være til at undgå for mig. Og da jeg hader alt, der har med den slags at gøre, lukkede jeg prompte den fristende log-ind pop-up.

 --  A  --  B  --  C  --

Here's the solution, that would have earned me the green badge
~
Her er den løsning, der ville have givet mig det grønne mærke.
