Fugle på foderbrættet - Birds at the Feeder

In the garden we have birds - lots of birds, sparrows, blackbirds, tits, goldfinches, wrens and many more even the occasional woodpecker. The bird feeding thingies hang in our walnut tree, and the tree is often filled with birds perched on the feeders, on the branches and in the grass below. But the second I grasp my camera, the tree looks like this:

  1. I know. So many birds are camera shy. I sometimes wonder whether they mistake the camera for a gun. Fortunately many (but by no means all) of our birds have become accustomed to the mad woman and her camera.

  2. This happened to me when I travelled to the most distant part of my country known for storks. I had a real big camera. They were not afraid of the camera itself but the click when I would take a shot would frighten them away each time I tried. I could not take a single photo of the mamma stork sitting on the chimney.

  3. We need to figure out a disguise for the cameras.

  4. EC. We do not have many guns around here (it's forbidden by law - or at least very hard to get one), the deer hunters in the woods and adjacent fields some weekends a year is all, I can think of, and no-one ever shoots at the birds.

Ladka: The funny thing is that it is the camera as such which scares them. I have a digital camera and long ago disabled the Click-sound because it scared off the butterflies - who are not afraid of the camera.
I can stand in the window for long, looking at the birds. but ... the moment I get my camera ready - off they go. It's SO very strange.

Mimi: A camera-disguise might be the thing, I need. Off to think our one ;)

  5. HAHAHAHA! Like my dog or my grandkids! As soon as the camera comes out...nothing. We are down to our 'winter' birds here. Sparrows and chickadees. With the occasional blue jay (for colour!). How happy I am in spring when the others return!
