Some days ago MotherOwl saw felted fall leaves somewhere in the corners of the internet. She took off her worn woollen sweater and threw it in the washing machine. It came out looking just the same (only a bit cleaner) She attacked it with hot water, soapsuds and a plunger in a bucket. Nothing happened. We even tried the hottest cycle in the washing machine (90 degrees), the sweater still fit MotherOwl. Those jokes about sweaters shrinking to baby size in the washing machine might be an urban myth.
A long time ago, at least two years ago, MotherOwl started remaking a throw, using Ecoprinting. Most of the squares are still squares, but now MotherOwl found a yarn that suits all the squares and MotherOwl. Big stuff. Maybe we'll end up with a finished project in two year's time.

But as you see not all the squares are pretty, some are bland and boring some are even ugly.
The bland and boring ones are OK, a throw needs something to make the pretty parts pop, but the ugly ones ...MotherOwl had one of them in the hot water cycle, it shrunk, like 1 cm -- wow!
MotherOwl then put it onto a pot of boiling coreopsis flowers boiling for a dye extract. It did not shrink any further, but turned the an autumnal orange-brownish. Perfect for a leaf.

MotherOwl pulled some threads from her stash of plant dyed yarn. The thinner thread went into the coreopsis pot as well to get a reddish hue. Then MotherOwl grabbed a felting needle and began to lay on yarn, no pattern, no plan, just doing.

The leaf ended up looking like this. Now MotherOwl is wondering. Do I cut out the leaf, as intended, or do I leave it whole and incorporate it in the throw, maybe even make some more like it, with other colours and patterns?
