In the Owlery many strange plants are grown. We're self sufficient with herbs and spices - except of course those calling for tropical trees like pepper, cimmamon etc. That's why we have a laurel plant growing in a pot. This spring it has not been looking good. MotherOwl wanted to give it some new soil and so on. But then ... on the underside of the leaves something grew ...
Skjoldlus! Wax Scales!

MotherOwl searced the internet for a treatment without poison. A stiff brush should do it for vine plants. A scrubbing brush would be too much for the more tender laurel leaves. An old toohtbrush could be the solution.MotherOwl rushed into the bathroom, scaring an Owlet on his way into the bath tub. MotherOwl excused and explained the need of an old toothbrush for the remowal of wax scales on the bay laurel. The Owlet shook his head with a lopsided smile.

The bay laurel on the terrace after a succesful treatment. Rememberto brush the stems as well, and repeat the treatment after some weeks I suppose.
