Every Monday is Poetry Monday. Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings
and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the
prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is
taking a break for health and relaxation. We hope to hear from Diane soonish.
I
have something to ask of you: If you read this and the poetry of
others via the links, would you please leave a comment.
Half - if not more - the fun
of these challenges is receiving the responses of others.
Today's prompt is Never say never / Christmas/Hanukkah
My really pissed of poem comes after a couple of days where first a teacher ended in a shitstorm for telling her pupils that santa does not exists, then I went to a second hand place to shop for Christmas ornaments. I found: Santas, elfs, baubles, reindeer ... not ONE SINGLE baby Jesus, no wise men, not even an angel. Next day I found a Holiday tree online! And in this same place earlier, we were treated to Eid mubarak and Happy Hanukkah. Everything seems OK except for the Christian version ... that one is out, it seems.
I was as already told, quite pissed after this, so ... if you're not in for a very grumpy verse ... just stop here.
Don't send me Season's Greetings
or Happy Holidays.
The days are running swiftly,
time passes in a haze.
The Season here is winter,
it's cold, it's dark and wet.
The Holiday's upon us,
we cook, we clean and fret.
And are we really merry
with santas, elfs, and fairies?
Can't you say: Merry Christmas,
then better silent be,
for santas, elfs and fairies
is nothing fun for me.
You see, the only reason
that I can stand this season
is Him that is the reason
to celebrate this "season".

I am so very sorry that the meaning of Christmas has been usurped by commercialism for you. And if it isn't out of place from an agnostic may I wish you and yours a blessed day.
SvarSletThank you very much. This wish is totally not oyut of place, because you mean it, and are who and what you are. Much appreciated!
SletMy grudge is with people happily wishing Eid Mubarak when appropriate, writing Happy Hanukkah in their shop window, but shy away from wishing anybody Merry Christmas so as not to insult anybody.
Merry Christmas. I love all the elves and gnomes and glittery decorations.
SvarSletMerry Christmas to you as well, I love glitter, and gomes (I draw gnomes often and happily), and elves, and even a Santa now and then. I't only when there's nothing BUT Santas and elves that I feel bitter.
SletI am on your side on this one. There's no reason for Christmas without Christ.
SvarSletThis is true, and has almost totally been forgotten here in Denmark.
SletI do not mind elves, reindeer and a santa now and then, but when there's no Christ-child to be found, not even a star, a bell or an angel or any other thing having just a whiff of the Christian Christmas about them ... then I get ... sad, pissed and a lot of other feelings all at one time.
