Naturligvis skulle Uglemor da også have to nye helgener for 2016.
As saints for the year 2015 MotherOwl had the two saints Gianna Beretta Molla and Lutgardis. Both saints occupied with birth, pregnancy and anti abortion issues. MotherOwl has had some trouble applying those two. The Owl Family has not grown, and not more than the usual anti-abortion rants has been expected or wanted. MotherOwl is still a bit nonplussed.
Even if Jennifer Fulwiler re-named her blog, her Saints names generator is still active. MotherOwl of course wanted to find her saints for the coming year.
First one was St. Dominic (feast day August 8), patronage: Astronomers; falsely accused people; scientists. A bit of a mystery to me. I'm no scientist or astronomer, pure language nerd that I am. Falsely accused, I hope not.
But he's also the "inventor" of the rosary. I once co-authored a book on the rosary - when pope Saint John Paul II introduced the mysteries of light - and I have promised myself to return to the practise of praying it. I might well need his stern looks to remind me thereof.
A second one: St. James the Greater (feast day July 25), patronage: Arthritis and rheumatoid sufferers; blacksmiths; labourers; apothecaries and pharmacists; pilgrims; equestrians, knights, horsemen, and soldiers; veterinarians; furriers and tanners. A lot of places among those Medjugorje and Compostela.
MotherOwl holds the secret hope one day to be able to walk to Compostela and back. Maybe not in the year to come, a pilgrimage to Rome to walk through the holy doors is a bit more realistic.
