Skyderi i København -- We had a Shooting

Søndag  aften skød en mand ti andre mennesker i et indkøbscenter.i København.

Det gør mig ondt for ofrene og deres familier og for alle, der blev berørt af skyderiet.

Men det gør mig også ondt for alle os almindelige danskere og turister, der nu skal leve med virkningerne, for lur mig om ikke der sker noget.
① Det første, der nu sker, er 'Blame-game'. Hvem burde have gjort noget, set noget, vidst noget - klatten kommer til at køre fra politiet til psykiatrien til skolesystemet og tilbage igen.

② Og så kommer vi til våbnene - hvor kom de fra, hvordan kunne han få fat i dem ...
     Her skal i parentes bemærkes at han IKKE havde et automatvåben - og se lige på tallene: ti personer ramt af skud på ti minutter ... og så forestil dig ti minutter med et halvautomatisk våben.
     Han må have gået til skydning, for han kunne ramme, dødeligt.
     Og jeg mener, at vi faktisk gør nok i Danmark for at holde våben ude af almindeligt omløb. Man skal, som jeg skrev i den engelske tekst, have tilladelse, gyldigt jaggtegn osv. for at have et våben ... ja faktisk kræves dette bare for at gå ind i den afdeling af jagtbutikkerne der sælger ammunition.

③ Så kommer snakken om hvad vi skal have af tiltag for at hindre at det sker igen. Og så rammer konsekvenserne os alle sammen: Mere overvågning, flere vagter, mere kontrol, mindre frihed.
     Jeg håber det ikke ender sådan, men jeg frygter det.

PS: (Tirsdag morgen) Ofrene var jo et helt almindeligt udsnit af, hvad man ville møde i Field's en søndag eftermiddag.. Unge og ældre, mænd og kvinder, danskere og svenskere og en enkelt indvandrer (russeren vil nok ikke stikke ud som indvandrer). Så terror, fremmedfjendske, eller misogyne motiver  ... hmm det tror jeg ikke. Med mindre, der er et motiv, jeg ikke lige kan få øje på, er det nok sådan en episode, der ikke kan forebygges på andet end personligt plan. Altså, flere penge til psykiatrien.

Sunday evening a man shot ten people in a shopping mall in Copenhagen.

Of course I feel sorry for the victims and their families and for all that was touched by this.
But I also feel sorry for us ordinary Danes, and tourists who are going to live with the consequentness of this.

Fact box: ten hit by shots in Field's (the name of the shopping mall)

In all ten persons were hit by shots on July 3rd.

  • Three were killed: One 17 year old Danish boy, one 17 year  old Danish girl, one 46 year old Russian living in Denmark.
  • Four seriously wounded: Two Danish women, 19 and 40 years of age, one Swedish man aged 50, and one 16 years old Swedish girl.
  • Three lightly wounded by shots: a 15 years old Danish girl, a 17 years old Danish girl and a 45 years old Afghan man living in Denmark.

Now my prophesy, and why I feel sorry for us all.

① First to happen is the Blame Game: Who should have done something, seen something, known something - the blame will circulate from the police to the psychiatry to the school system and back again.

② And then we get to the weapons - where did they come from, how did he get them, why did nobody stop him from having them, and so on. Possession of weapon is uncommon, you ned learn how t shoot, have a paper from the police, renewed regularly,and keep the weapon under lock in your home.
  Note that he did NOT have any automatic or semi-automatic weapon; just a rifle - look at the numbers: ten people hit in ten minutes ... now imagine ten minutes with a semi-automatic weapon ...
  He must have had lots of shooting practise (not a common thing in Denmark), because he could hit, fatally.

③ Then we'll talk about what we need to do to prevent it from happening again. And those  consequences will hit us all: More surveillance, more guards, more control, less freedom.

I hope it doesn't end like this, but I fear it will.

PS (added Tuesday morning): The victims are a fair sample of what you'll meet a Sunday afternoon in Field's. Sweden is 20 minutes by train, Russians and people from Afghanistan are not an uncommon sight in Denmark either.  In short, no terror, no racism, no misogynistic motives here. I think - unless I missed something obvious - that the solution is personal. And I would ask for more money for the psychiatric wards.

Today's topic is Independence day - 4th of July, I  was in at least seven minds about writing a poem or anything at all for today, as I know most of you probably do not agree with me.

I feel attached to this day in special ways. One paternal great aunt went to America, and often came visiting, so we celebrated July 4th. This day is also celebrated in Denmark in Rebild Bakker - the largest celebration of July 4th outside of America.

For me this day also commemorate the value of human rights.
  Even if I'm not American, these sentences from the 
Declaration of Independence make me go misty-eyed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
  I'm appalled at how many are ready to only let some, select individuals have these Rights. They should be for everyone; refugees, sickly, unborn, disabled ... And I feel chafed and hurt by the discrepancy between picnics,  fireworks and buntings on on side, and digital dehumanizing, shootings, abortions, neglected sufferings of refugees and elderly ... on the other
I am going to publish my grumpy verse, for keeping silent is  just cowardly.



The 4th of July is a day of fun
We picnic, we celebrate, drowse in the sun.
But we should be re-thinking it all
Our freedom for old ones, for young and for small
The freedom to live and to play
The freedom to eat every day.

The 4th of July is a day of rest,
a day of putting our beliefs to the test.
Do we believe in justice for all
For old ones, for young ones, for even the small?
In freedom to do and to don't
In liberty also to 'won't'.

The 4th of July is a day of joy
But so far not a day to be complacent or coy.
Do we really believe that ALL folks are free
And not only those created as we?
The freedom is not ours to give
The freedom to be and to live!

Søndagsbilleder i gult - Sunday Selection, Yellow edition

I fredags var Uglemor i København sammen med to af Ugleungerne og ca. en halv million andre mennesker. Behøver jeg sige mere?

This Friday MotherOwl was in Copenhagen together with two Owlets and around half a million other people. Ned I say more?
Selv kloakdækslerne var med på sagen - Even the manhole covers were ready.

Vi ankom meget tidligt og nåede at se adskillige  ryttere prøve banen af. Her er det Lennart Kämna fra Bora-Hansgrohe, tysk mester i enkeltstart.

We arrived very early and saw a lot of the riders testing the course, riding slowly - only around 30 km/h. Here it's Lennart Kämna (Bora-Hansgrohe), winner of the time-trial national championships in Germany.
Karavanen, der kastede med ting og sager, kørte for en stor dels vedkommende en anden vej, men vi fangede da et par kasketter ... Ja, det regner, vi blev godt nok våde, men det var det værd.

The caravan, throwing merchandise, took another route for the most part, but we caught some caps ... Yes it's raining, we were drenched, but it was worth it!

     Jeg tog en masse halvdårlige billeder af selve løbet, og nogle videoer. Den af sidste mand på ruten, Marc Soler, er faktisk helt OK, men Blogger synes ikke jeg skal have lov at lægge den op. Jeg forsøger igen senere.
     Vi blev hele tiden, mange gik, efter at Jonas Vingegaard var kommet forbi og endnu fler efter Jakob Fuglsang. Vi ville blive og heppe på de sidste 20 mand også.

We stayed until the last man had passed where we stood, Many left after Vingegaard had passed, and more again after Fuglsang (the last of the Danes), but we missed only 20 by then, so we stayed.

Using today's words & IWSG - July question

The last batch of Words in June was given by me, and can be found here. I repeat:
     Humdrum, Hapless, Righteous, Puny, Troubled, Quirky.

I am - once again -  continuing the story of the mysterious examination in transformation and using the words in the order they were given. 
I'm still not satisfied with the story or my writing skills. But I want to tell this story!
Bits and pieces are missing. This whole chapter is in for a solid re-write before making it into the book. But as I can't just leave out a bit of the story, here we go:

The humdrum process of reading through pages and pages of encyclopedias on mammals, marsupials and other animals in Australia, was interrupted at regular intervals by someone reading aloud when they found a relevant passage.
"Tigers!" Kalle said, "There is an Australian tiger." He paused looking down into the book again: "The Thy-la-cine, wow hope I said this right - is an extinct, or possibly extinct - this means died out, doesn't it?" Knud nodded and Kalle read on: "a carnivorous marsupial that was native to the Australian mainland and the islands of Tasmania and New Guinea. It is commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger or the Tasmanian wolf. The Tasmanian tiger was relatively shy and nocturnal, with the general appearance of a medium-to-large-size canid." He stopped. "What's that?"
"Canid?" Hilde said, Kalle nodded his blonde head and Hilde continued. "Canid is the adjective to canine, meaning as or of a dog. That means dog-like, or a member of the dog-family!"
"Thanks," Kalle said and went on: "This then means that it looks like a medium sized dog except for its stiff tail and abdominal pouch similar to that of a kangaroo."
He drew a deep breath: "The Tasmanian tiger was an expert predator; but exactly how large its prey animals were is disputed. Its closest living relatives are the other members of Da-sy-u-ro-mor-phi - another of those big words," Kalle said with  sigh "including the Tasmanian devil - good old Taz!"

"Are they extinct or are they not?" Hilde asked impatiently.

"The last hapless specimen, a male, died in a zoo in 1936. Since then people claim to have seen some, but none have been photographed or caught."

They read on in silence.

"When is our deadline?" Kirstin suddenly asked.

"I know!" Hilde said with a righteous mien. "Today, just before lunch!"

"We're in deep trouble," Kirstin answered. "Lunch is at one o'clock as always. Now it's almost eleven. Two hours to solve this. Our puny magic is not up to this!"

"Earth!" Knud exclaimed. "That was what was troubling me. We're missing the last clue from Jon, the last element!"

"You sure have a quirky mind," Susan said.

"You're right," Hilde said to Knud and at the same time a stone came in through the window. Kirstin looked out, but she could only see the empty yard below and the branches criss-crossing overhead.

July 6 question - If you could live in any book world, which one would you choose?
This is an impossible to answer question!
   I would like to live in several book worlds, the Hobbits' Middle-Earth, the magical world of Harry Potter, Laura Ingalls Wilder's prairie home, Paksenarrion's mediaeval world, the high fantasy "Earth" of Paul Anderson's Three Hearts and Three Lions, The Broken Sword, or Operation Chaos, or the Avalon from People of the Wind. Or the musroomy village of the Smurfs. Or the forlorn planets of Enemy Mine.  Or the Palumbian rainforest where Marsipilami are to be found. Or the underseas colonies of a short story the name of which eludes me. Or Pern, as described in the first books and the Harper's Hall series. Or Salzburg and surroundings from The Sound of Music.
