Sunday Selections - Demolishing

Apart from being busy with my mother's illness, death and burial we have been demolishing an outhouse. The roof was made from a material outlawed as per January first, so we've been busy.

First we pulled off the roof and emptied the building with some help from friends and family, then we called for help ...

Help came, and he pulled, ...

... and pulled ...

... and pulled the house down.

A couple of days later he finished the job, and another helper arrived, removing all the "humongous white bricks" in a big lory.

Now there's a muddy patch of ground, and we will have a modest shed for bikes, lawnmower and such built in its place. The hens will have to move as well, as their place was next to the old, white building.

But now we're no more in a hurry.

    1. It sure is. And I would have like to have taken it on either years ago or maybe next year. But the law was made fast and with a short timeframe, so, we had to do it now.

  2. That was a big job and I'm sure you are relieved it is done. It's nice to take photos of the process to look back on later.

Wishing you peace and good memories of your mother.

    1. Luckily we had good helpers, and it went down without big problems.

Thank you for your good wishes for my mother, you and yours are often in my thoughts.

  3. This is a lot of change in a short time. I hope the new building goes up easily and you get a break from big changes for a while.

    1. Thank you, we hope so too. A boring life with small changes for a year or two would be very welcome.

  4. Such a lovely big size it was, but a smaller one will leave more space for a garden or chickens.

    1. Yes it was big, as big as our house even. The previous owner of the house had two lorries parked in there. But it was no good, as the walls were made of some super-heavy non-insulating but watertight material. And the roof was old, leaky and holey. So in our cold, wet climate everything left inside rusted or turned mouldy very fast. A smaller, non leaky one would serve its purpose way better, and as you say give more space for chickens and growing things.
