It's been a week with a lot of animals that I haven't managed to take pictures of. We have seen a red kite several times hovering in the air above us, it's really big. I've seen a heron sitting in a tree right in front of me, it took off while I got the camera out. We've seen garter snakes, wagtails, a lesser stag beetle and a rose chafer. Of this last one we found another one today - and finally got a photo.
And at long last I made a new tea cosy. We call it Edward Frog.
I made a soap with chamomille tea, and got a photo of a soap-on-a-rope.
I wonder if anyone remembers me talking about the surviving birch tree at Hillerød station and making up tales about friendly railwaymen sharing their water with the tree. I think unfortunately it was not just tales, the kind railwayman has retired and the tree is withering. I hope tonight's rain has revived it.

Søndagsbillede :: Plantemishandling
Even if the colour of the month, Olive green, is found in these cacti, it is a clear cut case of plant maltreatment.

Yesterday I noticed that my Colour of the month is Salmon RANGE, not Salmon Pink. Hence all remotely salmon coloured things are OK.
Today, while waiting for the bus, I saw this ivy, painted by graffiti painters, but still growing. And the backside of the leaves are within the salmon range
There's a typo in the colour code. My fault. The RGB code is 229-081-055.

Quiet Sunday after a Busy Week - Sunday Selections
Monday:
I was at a meeting, leaving home in cloudy weather clearing up. When I left the train with my bike, the clouds opened, and after some preliminary errands, a dripping MotherOwl arrived half an hour later at the meeting.
We met in a church, no not in it, but where you gather for activities not masses and such.
I found an icon of my favourite saint.
Tuesday:
Marsupilami had his last exams after High school ... He did well!
Wednesday:
Pirate ended his 10th school year and is after the holidays going to visit the same High school Marsupilami just left.
Thursday:
The Writer was at a meeting in Copenhagen. He was brought home by BigSis who helped us celebrate in the evening. We celebrated Midsummer. The Writer once again held the speech.
Then we sent off the witch to Brocken; an old tradition symbolising the victory of good and light over evil.
Friday:
Marsupilami had his graduation ceremony.
And then they celebrated ...
Saturday:
We baked a cake, went shopping and then went to Copenhagen where mass was celebrated for the last time before the summer holiday in out Parish church.
Our priest is from Vietnam, and he has friends with a restaurant, so we celebrated, talked and ate Vietnamese food amid great joy. Marsupilami had yet another party in the evening and did not join us.
I forgot to take any photos, but waiting for the train on our way home I photographed the survivor tree at the station in the evening sun.
In between has been all the everyday work and busy-ness the chicken choose this week to have fleas and had to be treated! - then more meetings, visits to PE, Chiropractor, Optometrist - everything is well with the Writer's eyes after cataract surgery - Yay!
Today we slept in, The writer rode his bike to a nearby town for cakes, then we had cakes and coffee in the shade in the Owlery. We took it easy, either savouring the wonderful summer weather, or moaning over the heat after each inhabitants' disposition.

Welcome to this Sunday's post, with mixed pictures from the past week. The first one is a link to Life in Colour, where the colour of the month is purple, not violet.
Og så en underlig, J-formet radise.

And a radish in letter shape.
I went through the woods on my bike. The beech buds were bursting and the leaves unfolding, making all the bud scales fall against my helmet like rain.

Some time ago I wrote about a tree growing on top of a stop-thingie at the end of a train track at the train-station in Hillerød. It had a sad end, as you can read here: Defiantly growing 1 But today we were once again at Hillerød train station, and look! The tree is once more growing.

... men vi blomstrer alligevel!
Defiantly flowering!

Some time ago, we noticed this tree. It sure was defiantly growing on top of a stop-thingie at the end of a train track at the train-station in Hillerød. We talked about this growing tree, how old it might be, and how it survived the very hot and dry Summer of 2018, and had different solutions, including kind train persons sharing their water bottles with the poor, thirsty tree.
Today we once again passed this tree, and of course we had to check on the defiant tree, to see how it thrived.
But it had come to a sad ending for the defiantly growing tree. Somebody, either a scoundrel or an angry train person, had broken off the tree at its base.
And this was the end of another defiant tree.

Plantemishandling -- 2 -- Maltreatment of Plants
Men hvorfor? Det nærmer sig da mishandling.
Obvious there's something about certain flowers, making some people thinking of dyeing them. But why? It is a new case of maltreatment of plants.
And it can not be because plants are unable to be colourful if you do not help them with a spray can.
Heldigvis går naturen over optugtelsen for denne smukke lyng.
Luckily nature has it's way with this heather.

Flere trodsige blomster -- Defiantly flowering again
This time nobody cut down trees. Only nature had its way. All Japanese cherries in Denmark are grafted because of our harsh climate. And here the rootstock has put out branches, gradually overtaking the tree. Resulting in the pink show gradually giving way to a cloud of snow white flowers - and to the tree bearing cherries in autumn.
Now there's only this tiny branch of the Japanese cherry left, but it's still flowering beautifully.
The same tree in 2012, some years after I noticed the phenomenon. The rootstock is sending its sturdier branches up, gradually weakening the pink blossoms. The Japanese cherry to the left shows how it is supposed to look.
Maybe I should have pulled off the white branch when first I noticed. But I was young and timid, and so sure the municpal gardeners would notice.
Maybe the other Japanese cherries attracted a disease. Of the wole row this is the only left standing.

... men vi blomstrer alligevel!
... but we're flowering anyway!

Some weeks ago, MotherOwl wrote about the defiant cherry tree by the bus stop.
Today MotherOwl is going to show off a couple of just as defiant sloe shrubs. Last Autumn they were cut down to a few centimetres, and MotherOwl was sorry because every spring they used to look like this and make MotherOwl happy. This week we found very low, thin branches of sloe flowering in spite of their small stature.
MotherOwl has been making fun, speaking in a small defiant voice and saying "... but we're flowering anyway!" every time we pass the defiant sloe sprigs.
... we're flowering anyway! |
