Men alligevel.

  -- --

"It will get worse before it gets better", says Pippi Longstocking, citing an old saying. I an clinging to this right now.
Yesterday the world looked like this. I cleaned out the chicken coop, and almost forze off my fingers. It was just below ferrzing (-2C / 30 F), but the windchill made it feel much colder. And I loved it! Cold, clear, crisp air that smells as fresh as the clear, blue sky.
I much prefer frozen stiff hen crap to soggy, mouldy chichen crap.

  -- 💧 --

We had some snow yesterday after dark, and I went out and threw some snowballs at the roadsign - no hits this time. Today it looked like this:

  -- 💧 --

Now the snow is rotten and impossible to play withdeal with. The frozen areas are as slippery as ice (it IS ice), and everything is damp and yucky. Even if it is not really cold.
I had to go out and dig away a lot of heavy, wet, partially frozen and compacted snow. Every time it snows, the snow ploughs push the snow right over the storm drain in front of our house. When the snow then thaws, it ends up as a huge puddle right at the end of our driveway.
I haven't warmed up yet, even though it's now around 3 degrees Celsius (~38 F), but the damp, clammy cold creeeps under my clothes and makes me feel much colder than the frost and wind did yesterday.
Let's hope it gets better soon – better means sunshine and dry weather! Until then, I'll play computer games, write, sew, knit and make soap.

Jeg elsker sne og frost! ~ I love Snow and Frost!

Here are some photos from my snow-covered corner of the world.
Springvand inde i byen, nu slukket i frosten. Ja, jeg er ude på isen.
Normally water-spouting from in the pond in town. And yes I stand on the ice in the pond.

View from the frog. The dark "lane" to the left is a slide somebody made. I tried it, it was very slippery, and fun!
.

Ugleboets have med nyfalden sne - rent eventyr
The Owlery with newfallen snow. Pure delight.

Hønsehus i sne.
Chicken coop in the snow. The snow is isolating, and helping to keep the chicken warm.

Somebody had been inside the chicken coop in the early morning hours. My guess is a blackbird, finishing off yesterday's apples.

My view getting up. Somebody walked there, I followed the tracks, afraid it might have been a rat.

Nope, not a rat. Some days ago I met a polecat in the garden. I think it moved in here. Welcome to the Owlery Mr or Ms Polecat.
I'm happy because polecats eat rats, but they are also known to eat a chicken now and then. I'll just have to remember to close up the coop - every nigth.

Poetry Monday :: Glacier & Half an hour more!
Mandagsdigt og en halv time længere

Poetry Monday - what's that? It is a blogging game, that Mimi of Messymimi's Meanderings and I have taken over the hosting duties, mostly the supplying of the prompts - only temporarily we hope - while Diane at On the Border is taking a break for health and relaxation, travelling the world with her husband as far as we can tell.  We just hope she's going to take back over once she returns home.

The prompts now come from 365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts group. This is a Facebook group with a prompt for each day of the year, but no worries, the prompts will still be here and at Mimi's blog.

Today's prompt is:
Glacier

A glacier is a big, cold thing,
I feel like living inside one,
But longer days new seasons bring
Enjoy the snow, soon it is gone.

This past night we had minus 11 degrees, very cold!
Tonight we'll have snow, then rain as the temperature rises to above zero once again.

Today the day is already half an hour longer.
The process is speeding up too, yesterday was 2 minutes shorter, tomorrow will be 3 minutes longer, but probably feel shorter because of return to normal January weather, rain low clouds, murky. I'm not a fan. I loved my glacier days.

- -  A  - -  - - - -

365 Days of Drawing Prompts and other Arts.

Gletsjer

I morgen vender vejret, se
og regnen er tilbage
Men i mit hjerte glitrer sne

Old, worn and cobwebby, but it still works. When it's cold, it inside temperature affects it, making it show two degrees over the actual one. It always did.
If we subtract, minus eleven is what we get.

-- 🌡 --

Today, the day is 21 minutes longer than at the winter solstice. And it is totally unevenly distributed. Most of the 21 minutes – almost all of them, in fact – are in the evening...  It seems that even though the days are getting longer from the winter solstice, the mornings will be later for a while longer...

No matter what. We have more light, and we have SNOW!
Just look at this weather forecast:

❄ ❅ ❆  ⛄  ❆ ❅ ❄

❄ ❅ ❆  ⛄  ❆ ❅ ❄

Frost as far as the eye can see. How lovely. What you can't see is that there is actually snow in the forecast for today. You can see it here:
Det drømmende monsters to lukkede øjne er mulighed for sne. Jeg håber ...

❄ ❅ ❆  ⛄  ❆ ❅ ❄

The two closed eyes of the dreaming monster are a possibility of snow. I dare hope ...

10 minutter mere ~ 10 Minutes More

Vejr fra / Weather from: yr.no

Today the day is longer by ten whole minutes, and we have a full moon tonight.
and it's frost and snow ... reasons to celebrate.

Sommertiden er slut! End of DST

Even though it is harder to see here on YR than it was on the lost and mourned BedreVejr, DST ends tonight.
Notice that left of the blue arrow all hours are the even ones, and after it's only the odd ones, so instead of stretching the graphics, like Bedre Vejr (Better Weather) did they do it in this sneaky way.
But no matter how it makes me really happy. Tomorrow and tomorrow, and for many days after the sun will be in the skies, or almost there when the alarm goes off. The Writer can again bike to the station without using his super-light, and my inner Owl is happy, as my time now again fits the clock. I am no longer going to wake up an hour before the alarm goes off - no, I do not know why on Earth DST does this to me, but it does. Slowly, in the coming week, my inner alarm will recalibrate itself, and wake me up around 10 minutes before the alarm goes off, as it does all winter. I so look forwards to undisturbed sleep again.
News from the EU commission gives me hope that this idiocy will soon be a thing of the past.

Regnvejrssysler ~ Rainy Weather Doings (Blogtober 7)

The tail end of Amy the storm hit us gently. It gave us lots of rain and shook loads of walnuts from our trees, and I collected quite a bit in one of the non-rainy intervals.
Then, as it rained once again,  I removed all the green outer husks (staining my fingers a nice brown) spread out the nuts to pre dry, put those from Friday in the dehydrator, made grape jelly and applesauce. I even knitted a bit.

Blogtober (Blogtober 4)

I am the densest blogger alive, I think I never heard about Blogtober until today when Lucy @ Attic24 told about it on her new blog (force-moved, since Typepad closed down). And it's already too late, I "lost" as I did not blog yesterday at all. But I'll be trying. Bear with me, with stupid, inane and colourful blogposts during Blogtober.

-- 💧 --

-- -- 💧 --💧 -- --

Dagens tema: Vejr. Vi bringer en vejrmelding - Today's theme: Weather, here's the Weather forecast:
It's in Norwegian, as I use yr.no for my daily weather forecast.

Udenfor ser det sådan her ud ~ Looking outside it looks like this:
Men pludselig begyndte Cirkelines Regnvejrssang at køre inde i mit hoved.

-- 💧 --

But all of a sudden I heard this happy Rainy song inside my head. So maybe it's time to enjoy the wet and storm and have a cosy Saturday filled with autumny doings. A translation might follow, but it's something like Winnie the Poo singing about snow, just this elf and rain instead ;)

Tuesday ~ Tirsdag

We had a little bit more rain. I emptied the blue barrel into the Frog pond once again - 140 litres more ... can you see it? There's still room for more.

Sunday Selection: Rain

I torsdags så vores frøsø sådan her ud.
We have had dry times here. Thursday our pond looked like this.
Fredag regnede det 19 mm. 💧 Friday we had 19 mm of rain.

Saturday it only rained a little, 3 mm, but we emptied a blue barrel of rainwater into the pond, 120 litres
💧

Sunday was the yearly pligrimage - outdoors - and it rained

Søndag eftermiddag så frøsøen sådan her ud 💧Sunday late the pond looked like this.
Der må godt komme lidt mere regn 💧We still need a bit more water

Almost everybody had left. The final procession and blessings were shortened. The four men in black at the statue of Our Lady of Aasebakken is our bishop (in the red cap) two priests and the main altar server. Normally they're dressed for the occasion - it was too wet today.

Sunday: Today’s average difficulty is 4.3 guesses out of 6, or moderately challenging. Moderately challenging ... well I did not know the solution-word, and had to seek help in a dictionary to find me a word to fit this pattern: 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 after having tried ALL the non-invalid letters, and none made a word I knew.

Words for Wednesday March 4th ~Bill & Sue and the Seventh Son 2

In March, River is supplying the prompts for Words for Wednesday.

Word for Wednesday is a challenge that was started a long time ago. Now it has turned into a movable event with Elephant's Child as our coordinator; and the Words provided by a number of people.

The general idea of this challenge is to make us write. Poems, stories, subtitles, tales, jokes, haiku, crosswords, puns, ... you're the boss.
Use all Words, some Words, one Word, or even none of them if that makes your creative juices flow. Anything goes, only please nothing rude or vulgar.

It is also a challenge, where the old saying
"The more the merrier" holds true.

So Please, remember to follow the links, go back and read other peoples' stories. And please leave a comment after reading. Challenges like this one thrives on interaction, feedback and encouragement. And we ALL need encouragement.

- - A - - B - - C - -

This Wednesday's prompts:
Striking
Deliver
Insulting
Coffee
Spanner

I will be continuing my surrealistic story of Sue and Bill ... at least until I am somewhat recuperated from these last stressing months. I feel like writing, knitting, drawing, sowing, digging, weeding, baking, creating something ... anything at all, but my energy levels are at zero. I hope the returning daylight also is going to help. Sunset tonight is as late as 17:48, and sunshine is in the cards for the coming week. Yay, I'm thankful that the light is returning!

Bills premonition was striking, but it did deliver. At a quarter to eight a knock was heard, and after a pause, that would have been insulting in a lesser being, Bill called: "Enter!" in the exact tone of a man who was just about to drink his coffee and felt irritated at the disturbance. A man in raincoat and yellow sou'wester, wet through and carrying a humongous spanner in his hand, entered and said: "Bill, Sue. I need your help!" before fainting on the dark linoleum flooring.
"You are as good as your word!" Sue said as she rose and went over to their guest. "I wonder how he go so wet? ... Salt water!" she exclaimed.

- - A - - B - - C - -

And I felt like making WordLit again. It is neither the best, not the smartest of them, but today's solution - one of the words I often use for starters, but of course not today - fit in somehow. As this is the actual solution for today - March 4th - don't scroll down unless you have already solved today's Wordle, or do not intend to.

Floriane did not get us :: Words for Wednesday and Echoes

The Word for Wednesday challenge started a long time ago. Now it has turned into a movable event with Elephant's Child as our coordinator; and the Words provided by a number of people.
The prompts for January are provided by Elephant's Child and can be found @ Elephant's Child.

The general idea of this challenge is to make us write. Poems, stories, subtitles, tales, jokes, haiku, crosswords, puns, ... you're the boss.

This week's prompts are:
Ancient
Life
Water
Melody
Lied
      and/or
Medal
Speaker
Cords
Paper
False

This is an echo of my Friday Frustrations and more from November 2023 onwards. I only used one of the Words for Wednesday: Water. I'm still not totally out of my poetry writing spell, so a poem is what you'll get.

Floriane's winds have blown
and the waters all have grown
but our tunnel's dry as a bone
we can run to the bus and go home.

Catching the bus during the storm Floriane - January 2025.

All spring of 2024 the tunnel was closed, we ran, sometimes illegally under the descending gates to catch the bus  ... the road was almost closed as well, bothering traffic in and out of town, but it was worth the trouble, just compare this:

I nat ... Tonight

Even though it is harder to see here on YR than it was on the lost and mourned BedreVejr, DST ends tonight. I here mouse over the relevant spot, and it tells me the weather tonight between 02 and 02 am. It is a bit absurd, but makes me really happy. Tomorrow and tomorrow, and for many days after the sun will be in the skies, or almost there when the alarm goes off. The Pirate can again bike to school, and my inner Owl is happy, as my time now again fits the clock, and I am no longer going to wake up an hour before the alarm goes off - no, I do not know why on Earth DST does this to me, but it does. Slowly, in the coming week, my inner alarm will recalibrate itself, and wake me up around 10 minutes before the alarm goes off, as it does all winter. I so look forwards to undisturbed sleep again.

~ 💧 ~

The weather today made me think of another poem from my student days, Deszcz jesienny by Leopold Staff. It's a very evocative verse where you through the rhythm and the words hear the rain hitting the windows.

And it's only a small part of a very long poem.

First in Polish - try to read it just for the sounds - and then in English and Danish. I don't consider myself to be on the level of Leopold Staff or any of the other Młoda Polska poets, I do my best, but it's just so much better in Polish.

~ 💧 ~

O szyby deszcz dzwoni, deszcz dzwoni jesienny
I pluszcze jednaki, miarowy, niezmienny,
Dżdżu krople padają i tłuką w me okno...
Jęk szklany... płacz szklany... a szyby w mgle mokną
I światła szarego blask sączy się senny...
O szyby deszcz dzwoni, deszcz dzwoni jesienny...

~ 💧 ~

Rain rings against the windows, the autumn rain rings,
And splashes forever, unending, unchanging,
Raindrops fall and splash on my window ...
Glass moaning ... glass crying ...the windows wet with mist
And the grey light seeping drowsily through ...
Rain rings against the windows, the autumn rain rings ...

~ 💧 ~

Words for Wednesday on a Thursday ~ Onsdagsord

The Word for Wednesday challenge started a long time ago. Now it has turned into a movable feast with Elephant's Child as our coordinator; and the Words are provided by a number of people.
The prompts for August  are provided by Mimi @ Messymimi's Meanderings.

This week's prompts are:
Convince
Education
Slice
Decide
Craft
Family
     and/or the following phrases
Beating a dead horse
On the ropes
Wake up call

All what the words made me think of was this moralistic rant - Quirky Owl at large.

I'm trying to convince my co-humans that education never stops. If we do not exercise your brawn and brain every day, and pick a new slice of matter frequently, it is the same as to decide to regress, to fall into disrepair and forgetfulness. Use it or lose it goes for all areas of our mind and body.

Craft is one of the good ways of keeping fit mentally and physically, having a big lively family is another.

Time and again I feel I am beating a dead horse, but nothing will stop me figuratively yelling at people. And some won't ever listen, some only when neglect have brought them on the ropes, some do not even heed this wake-up call, but stays in the sofa with Netflix and chips handy.

Onsdagsord på en torsdag

Vi fik de her ord:
Overbevise
Uddannelse
Skive
Beslutte
Kunsthåndværk
Familie
     og/eller følgende sætninger
At slå i en dyne
Ude i tovene
Wake-up call

Underlige Ugle på færde her.

Use it or lose it gælder for alle områder af vores sind og krop.

To show how my quirky brain works I found these two photos from the past week ... they reminded me of one another.

A golden Pikachu-Oreo, banana/chocolate taste and ...

Dag 5 ~ World Photography Week ~ Day 5

-- 🌶  🫑 --

Today it's raining. I went to the Dome and looked at unripe peppers and chilies

Only time will tell what the two leftmost turn into as I only planted bell peppers and jalapeños.

-- 🌶  🫑 --

Sunday Selections :: Obsessed by the Weather.

I think I found out just WHY Danes (and other Nordic people) are so obsessed by the weather, constantly talking about it and so on.
Because our summers are short but intense, we have to save up sunshine vitamins and good moods against the coming winter - like a squirrel hoarding nuts.

Yesterday was
finally a day of sunshine - I worked in the garden.

This morning
on our way to church the weather was back to its new normal - lots of
around. We ran to the bus.

On our way home, the rain had abated, and my defiant tree was still growing at the train station in Hillerød.

Poetry Monday :: Growth

Growth - It seems I cannot get away from whining about the weather and incessant rain. Well let it at least be nice and rhyming whinies then.

Growth is everywhere
Plants grow here and there
Weeds and beans,
Flowers, greens,
tomatoes and grains
Just because it rains.

Growth is here and there
In my place and their
weeds and tansies
peas and pansies
mildew and hen's banes
Just because it rains.

Growth is in the air
clouds like a nightmare.
Thunder rolls
and lightening flashes
Puddles in all holes
All is splish and splashes.

Weather Whining! ~ WfW July 10

Is this summer?

Mimi at Messymimi's Meanderings has written s funny, witty and sunshiney post today - but oh, it makes me long for real summer and icecream cones.

We're already two full weeks and a bit into the Summer holidays and even past summer solstice, for heaven's sake, but we STILL have measly 17 degress. The sky is dull and cloudy and we see drizzle now and again.

We should be outside moaning a bit in the heat, collecting sunrays and memories as a comfort against the coming winter.

If this continues - and the forecast looks bleak - we're in for a winter with an upswing of seasonal depressions once again.

This is the weather forecast from YR.NO the Norwegian TV (NRK) and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute -- no, I have no idea how this turns into YR. It uses the same data as does the Danish ones, but its user interface is less bad.
Ever since BedreVejr.dk went offline the weather has been lousy. We hope for a return in the fullness of time.

And for this sorry piece, I used all the written prompts for this week's Words for Wednesday, given by me, but not the photo.
