Artiskokfarve -- Artichoke Dye

Piraten elsker artiskokker.

The Pirate loves artichokes. The rest of us like them as well, so MotherOwl tries to grow some every year; so far i vain.
Yesterday the Writer went shopping on his way home, and bought some artichokes. Upon seeing the left over water, MotherOwl quickly poured it into her dye pot before some busybody Owlet started doing the dishes.

Her til morgen smed hun et forsøgsnøgle i gryden.

This morning a trial skein went into the green waters; after simmering for an hour everything looked disappointingly brown.

Men garnet ser nu lovende ud.

The yarn looks promising nonetheless.

And dry it is a pretty mintgreen. A bit darker in real life. mini-skein number two is now simmering.

  1. What a great idea and marvelous results!! When we cook beets and I see the beautiful shade of the pot water, I wish I knew about dyeing threads!

    1. Thanks for your kind words. Yes many things give off interesting colours. Most are disappointing or not lasting. Beets give a lovely red dye, that washes off the next time you wash it, so it is only good for Cinderella's dress :)
