Today MotherOwl went shopping with the two smallest Owlets. Or rather we went by bike through the woods where the Owlets stayed while MotherOwl continued to town and run her totally boring, but necessary errands. The Owlets picked up sticks, fought monsters, climbed and yelled, and on her way home MotherOwl picked up the two heroes and the very first anemones. The iconic Danish spring flower.
The Danish composer and song/musical writer Sebastian, wrote "Song about Anemone". A terrible earworm with strange lyrics. It is part of the musical Ronja Røverdatter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter). And MotherOwl of course had to translate it.

Åh, anemoner - Anemone nemorosa. Iconic Spring flower
Anemonesangen

(Mellemspil)

Åh anemoner dækker hele jorden ligesom sne.
Åh anemoner Snart får vi vel sommeren at se.
Tekst & musik: Sebastian, 1991

Song about Anemone
Daytime woods are filled with pretty flowers
Flimsy branches, rays of sunshine colour laden.
Nighttime woods are filled with demon powers,
Mocking spirits, hinkypunks and elven maiden.
Oh pretty flowers! Covering the meadow just like snow
Oh pretty flowers! Summer, hurry up, we miss you now.

Busy is the daytime for the wayward
ruffled feathers flying; drifting slowly downwards.
In the night the watching eyes are glaring
In the darkness, in the sky. Oh they are staring!
Oh pretty flowers; sleeping in the meadow white as snow
Oh pretty flowers! Let me slumber in your starlit glow.

(Instrumental)
Oh pretty flowers! Covering the meadow just like snow
Oh pretty flowers! Summer, hurry up, we miss you now.

  1. Uglemor,

The flowers are a beautiful sign of spring. I can imagine the fun the Owlets had in the woods. I hope all is well with you and your family. God bless!
