Halloween

Yes we do celebrate Halloween. We start in the evening wiht spooky things.

  • Et uhyggeligt lys ved helgenkalenderen.
  • A spooky candle at our saints' calendar

  • Årets mini-græskarmand af vores eget græskar
  • The tiny Jack-o-lantern  from our own pumpkin.
  • The Owlets dress up and go trick or treating.

Dinner is spooky as well, or at least the things we eat are called by spooky names. It is rather a junk food dinner, but our halloween traditions stem from some busy year, and true to tradition, the Writer was away this year as well.
  • Ghostly sausages, fried eyeballs, and gravefrittata with loose teeth. Serve with worms or maggots (noodles or rice) and add Grave moss after taste. And a sip of blood to still your thirst.

All holidays in Denmark start the night before, Christmas begins the 24th in the evening, continuing with lessening intensity the next days. We do the same with all Saints' day. We continue celebrating in the morning with spooky mugs and candy, but on the saints' calendar the picture is an all Saints' picture, this year from Happy saints, incorporating the Year of Faith.

The dinner on all Saints' day is as divers as possible, consisting of many small dishes form all over the world  to suit the variegated Church.

  1. Uglemor,

I enjoyed reading about your celebration. We don't celebrate Halloween. Some of the shops have tried to promote it hoping everyone will buy lots of lollies and costumes and decorations, but it's not a custom that has really caught on. I love your jack o lantern!

    God bless

    1. It is also quite new in Denmark, it is only the last 3 years that the kids have gone trick or treating. But I like the tradition, it ligths up the dark evenings with Jack-o-lanterns, and it keeps the onset of Christmas shopping at bay until November 2nd. Christmas in Denmark is quite the secular holiday, we have a hard time keeping the focus on Christ.
